Bad Traffic with Google Display Network? (7)

Bad Traffic with Google Display Network?

You might make the following mistake as I did:

Short answer: try to EXCLUDE adsenseformobileapps.com !

Eighty percent (80%) of people’s time on their mobile device is spent in an app now, and this has caused a significant shift in the traffic available on the Google Display Network via different devices. We all know that there’s been a big shift in the amount of time people spend on mobile devices compared to desktops; but, you would be surprised at how this impacts your GDN campaigns! If you have the 320×50 ad size in your campaign, you are most likely being impacted by this shift at present as your ads will almost inevitably be showing on many irrelevant apps. The main issue is that you could be spending a huge amount of your budget on these app placements without any conversions rolling in.

I also found that excluding "adsenseformobileapps.com" has helped significantly cut out spam and shit traffic; however I've found crappy mobile traffic to be mostly an issue when launching a new account or campaign for the first time -- usually the first 3-5 days (before Conversion Optimizer is eligible).

I'd say to other people out there, excluding "adsenseformobileapps.com" and if you don't want to target mobile (setting a bid optimizer of -100% for mobile) will **not** completely solve your issues with getting hit with shit traffic.

For the first 3-5 days, you should be checking your Google Analytics stats and realtime stats looking out specifically for weird-ass Android traffic that comes from a Network Hostname that's always "unknown"

that's freaking awesome advice! thanks!

Perry Marshall & co. charge $XXXX for this kind of info in private meetings :-)

Yeah I'm actually a bit surprised, but not really, with how there's really not that many good resources for dominating AdWords/GDN besides Perry Marshall, who I think has pretty old stuff.

I say "a bit surprised, but not really" because for the past 3-4 years I've been underground to the point of being paranoid with revealing anything at all--literally I didn't reveal any tips or inklings to even family members or my gf. When you're doing big #'s, there's a good reason to be paranoid.

But after you've hit a certain $ amount in the bank account, and you hit a learning plateau, you realize that it's beneficial to share/teach as it helps you learn more, and usually pays dividends.

Well, it's cutting-edge you've shared. Thanks.

"Only the paranoid survive" said some tech guru :-)

I share Perry Marshall's believe that there are not many people who mastered Google's DISPLAY NETWORK.

you can also add appspot.com to placement exclusions for filtering out some more bullshit traffic. usually less tablet traffic means more conversions for me. also exclude in-game and gmob from the site category exclusions and you will start getting more converting traffic.
