Now, not that I am a weather enthusiast or anything, but we all know how much the media loves scaring us and talking about global warming and such. I think this is an interesting opportunity for marketers. There will be a lot of buzz about this in media outlets and it can be used to promote winter products (clothing, home improvements...) and also can be used as an angle for other stuff (Is El-nino the end of the world? hook up now before its too late!)...
A global event that is also on the scare tactic niche.

Completely agree. Like selling air conditioning units before a heat wave. El Nino provides some good marketing ammunition.
