Hopefully I'm asking in the right forum. I have been sending traffic to my landers without much thought to capturing emails. I know the benefits of creating a list is vast, but how does one go about implementing it? What do I need to add to my landers and server so I can begin collecting and storing them?
Thanks!
You can either use a third party autoresponder service like aweber or a script that you run locally on your own server.
I'm doing both.
With a service like aweber, setup is super easy. You create a list by giving it a name (and a few other settings) then you can create forms with their editor. They give a script to place on your landers where you want the form to appear and your optin form is then fully functional.
Each time someone subscribes, he's saved into your list.
You then have 2 ways to contact your subscribers.
Via follow up messages - think of them as a series of pre-written emails that you want to send to each lead at a specific pace. Like 1st email immediately after subscribing, 2nd email the next day, 3rd email 4 days after etc...
Or via broadcast messages - these messages can be sent at any time to all your subscribers or a subset as you wish.
The 2nd option is to install a program on your server - all the leads will be saved on your server and you will not have to pay a monthly subscriptions.
I'm using this wordpress plugin for this. But with this option you also need to setup an Amazon SES account if you want your emails to be delivered to the inboxes and not in the spam folder of your leads.
Thanks a bunch, Vitavee. I'm going to get this implemented in the next two weeks.
Thanks @vitavee for Wordpress plugin recommendation!
Thanks
@meathead - if you're not reasonably comfortable with mailing already you'll probably find it easier to start out with aWeber or similar. Having said that, I might put together a tutorial on setting up Sendy or something similar with Amazon SES in the near future!
Sendy's too vanilla. NO segmenting, no ways to config autpresponder send times, etc... But still better than paying 100x for ESPs
