I am running a Germany targeted campaign. From day one I have always received a few clicks from the US (Columbus, Ohio). At first it was only a few clicks and I figured since I am new to AM, I probably just set something up wrong.
I have not figured it out yet but, the clicks from the US are increasing. A few clicks- to about 10 – to 18% - and as of this post 52% from this same area.
Aside from skewing my data, is this costing me any extra monies?
Since I am paying CPM, it seems the clicks would not affect my costs but, I'm just checking to be sure as I am very new to this.
Did you check the IPs and ISPs of those visitors?
They may be spy bots.
It could be some fraudulent publisher, best to contact them and ask about it. I had a similar experience yesterday on Exoclick.
I was targeting a specific very small country (2 millon people) and now I get thousands of weird bots from California who behave as you describe. I already reported them fake traffic and requested a refund.
I checked both IPs and ISPs. All the same ISP (Enet inc.). Various IPs but most seem to be type of sequential order. Other than that not to sure how to check if bots or what else to do. Tuesday I will try to ask TrafficJunky.
I'm not sure if I'm making a big thing out of nothing but I just want to know if this effects my pricing etc in any way.
It started out with just a few clicks every day. But now it's much more.
Definitelly talk with them, 52% is far from normal. It might be some problem on their end with GEO targeting, I had it also happen with them and got a refund for the traffic that didnt match my GEO settings.
It's similarweb.
