Hi there,
I wanted to test a couple of other things before I post, but was banned from my offer, and now I have plenty of time..
I realized that my landing page loading time can be a main reason why my conversion was so low (and CTR on lp). In the last couple of days I've tested quite a few things in order to see which setup has a better loading page. I used gtmetrics, pingdom.com's RUM and yesterday caurmen's recomendation: dotcom-tools.com
I use S3 + CF and no CNAME. Also tested just S3 w/o CF which was sometimes better, sometimes no difference or slightly CF, sometimes significant improvement using CF. Tested also base64 pictures, which were better some of the times.
To make sure I have a great set up, I made just a basic html website without picture, just one request 1.9kb.(gtmetrics alwasy 0.1-0.2s) and have it sometimes over 1 or even 2s loading time even in USA. Even a smaller site has over 1s sometimes, is that normal?
And RUM says me the following, mainly for Russia:
http://prntscr.com/89ssac
for a landing page with picture: http://prntscr.com/89ssq1
These are probably not so bad numbers, but this is for a lp with 1.9kb (with tracker a little bit more, also another request) without any picture. So not really real life example imo.
Is there anything I can do to make them faster?
Interestingly, I click on banners on my phone now every time they pop up, just to check out landers and copy. So far haven't found a landing page, but the direct linking to playstore seems to take ages even on wifi in Austria. I was thinking that it probably won't load at all, and almost quit when playstore loaded. So people in 3rd tier (world) countries will have worse connection, so it is crucial that my landers load fast.
In term of conversions I only have minor differences between the landers, also would need more data...
It may be only that my copy sucks, but with bigger files my conversion rate was just plain bad.
OK, that's waaaaay slower than it should be.
Hmm - the first thing I'd check is that your lander is actually loading from CF. Looks to me like it might be loading from your S3 bucket directly.
Could you run a traceroute to your lander and paste the results here? http://tools.pingdom.com/ping/
Where is your S3 bucket based?
Thank you! http://prntscr.com/89tuiu
this is based in Frankfurt as it should be the closest to Russia. But tried pretty much every Amazon Server haha
OK, thanks! When you've been doing the tests above (particularly the RUM), have they always been done using the Cloudfront URL, or were you using a domain name you've CNAME'ed to that URL?
Thank you.
I don't use own domain at all, I actually asked in the CDN topic of yours whether I could have any disadvantages because of not using own domain. So I've tested speed with the S3 bucket URL, but the main traffic (and mobile) is from CF URL, being the one I set up in
Any idea what can I do? I am starting a new compaign today, could set up something differently, or better to track. I will also get more data, which is great.
