Hello all!
I'm still on the hunt for my first consistent profitable offer and I'm hoping I just found it. I just started promoting a new offer recently and figured I'd post a follow along and see how it goes. Here are the details:
Traffic Source: popcash
Offer: Win an iPhone 6
Payout: $2.00
Geo: AUS
Landers:
- Got a variation of one FB style lander I pulled off of my mobile ad spy tool. I added an "are you sure you want to leave" type script to catch the user if they try to leave/close the page before clicking on the CTA.
- i'm going to add another lander into the mix today, which looks a little different.
Current Strategy:
- Running it for all sites, all categories, and only certain OSs (Android, Windows Mobile, and Mobile Others) in popcash so I can get some data. My current bid is $0.012 and so far I have 882 visits and 79 clicks (0 conversions yet).
- After running this offer for a day or two, I'm going to see where things are at and start culling bad/underperforming categories and sites.
I would suggest to run this on Facebook or GDN, that will convert way better in my opinion
This is the 2nd time I've heard that this offer would do better on Facebook. I think I'll look into doing that now actually, I'm just more setup for for running pop traffic currently so I figured I'd start there.
FB-Style landers are burned out in most countries.
You'll have better success with os matching system-style or store lander.
As well, not sure if popcash is the right place to start.
Blacklisting is a pain over there.
Blacklisting is a total pain, but I want to give it a shot. Their support people have been pretty responsive to me and i want to see how easy it'll be to blacklist sites in bulk with them.
Also, I actually in the process of switching over to a non-FB style lander, a more "Apple brushed metal" style lander to see how that performs. Excellent advice.
Hey good job man and good luck, i wish you all the best!
I was just curious what ad networks do you currently promote offers for?
Look forward to seeing your next update!
Email their support and they'll "whitelist" placements for you so you don't have to manually go in and black-list them all. Good luck!

So, I ended up sending some traffic to that FB-style lander while I was getting my other ones. If anything, I wanted to gather at least some data and see how it performed. I got a few conversions but didn't come close to breaking even. Now this campaign was running for just 1 day so it's not too bad, but my goal was to still try some non-FB-style landers and see how they did. So that's where I am now, I have 2 new landers that differ drastically in style that I'm trying. I'm also trying an offer in another geo just to see how that performs too.
I'm also still sticking with pop traffic. I want to focus on mastering these types of traffic sources before I jump onto another one.
These new landers should get approved today. My goal is to run them for at least 2 days and see what kind of data I get and then go from there.
Does Facebook accept this kind of offers to promote? Or you need cloaking?

I had submitted my new campaigns/landers early in the day thinking that would allow them to get approved and I'd start getting traffic. That totally wasn't the case. They did not get approved until super early this morning so I didn't collect any significant stats for yesterday. But, today is already looking better. I was trying to direct link to an offer in another geo. That campaign blew through the $10 I allotted for it pretty quick and I did not get a single conversion. So I let that one die for now.
The 2 non-FB style landers I had started off promising but one lander was clearly better than the other one. By the time both were close to $10 spent, one had 2 conversions, and the other had 0. So I stopped the non-performer and I'm running with the one that got conversions. So far today, I've spent $14 on it and it's made $9. Not lightening the world on fire or anything but this is before I've done any kind of black/whitelisting of sites or categories. I figure I'll spend $40 total, and then take a look at the stats and start drilling down.
Awesome! I feel like once you secure the converting placements and get them whitelisted you'll be set. I'm not sure how many conversions would need to happen before being deemed a winning placement though. Anyway i wish you continued success. This is a great start.

So I let my promising lp run all day today, minus the period of time where traffic was dead in my geo and I saw some promising results. I'm getting some real conversions and it looks promising. I also have a good idea of what sites and categories I should be targeting now. I've gathered some real good data so far and I can wait to use it. The next step is to spin up a new campaign with just the winning sites, categories, and operating systems. I'm setting up that campaign right now and I'm hoping the trend continues!
Keep up the good work! Your ROI is -38% there by the way.

I created a new campaign with the intention of running that traffic for the sites that I got conversions for with my earlier campaign. The problem was that I thought it might get approved on late Saturday or on Sunday. The campaign itself did not get approved until earlier today (Monday)
Meaning I missed out on almost 48 hrs of data. From here on out, I just have to expect that nothing will probably get approved on Sundays. Unfortunate, but good to know. I was able to get a hold of the support team for my traffic source and they did upload my whitelist of sites I wanted to run traffic against. I'm looking forward to the data I'll have this time tomorrow.

So I was able to let my heavily target campaign run for a day and I was able to get some good data. I targeted specific sites, categories, and operating systems (iOS only for now since that where I was getting conversions). Turns out, my geo does not have a ton of iOS traffic, so my stats came grinding to a halt. It's the first time I've let a campaign run for a whole day and still have funds left over
Looking at the data, the geo just doesn't seem to have enough traffic to make it worthwhile.
I still like the offer itself however, so I went to my AM and he got me access to other geos for the same offer. 2 Geos that I would consider to be tier 1, maybe tier 2. So my new plan is basically run this offer in those new geos. I'm going to target the same categories and operating system (but not the same sites) and see where that gets me.
9/1/2015-9/3/2015 (so far)
spent: $119
made: $20.75
ROI: -14%
So I got a little too aggressive with the new geos. I spun up 3 campaigns in my 2 new larger market geos, and I just did not get anywhere near the CTR I got in my smaller geo. So then I added two different style landers into the mix, as an attempt to get some better stats and that still didn't improve my stats much. My strategy was to take my lander that was getting a decent CTR and CR in my smaller geo (AUS) and use that same lander in the larger geos. I also kept my campaigns targeted to the same categories that I was getting the best CTR and CR rates in.
Soooo, I'm going to change up my strategy. I'm going to stay in my smaller geo, and just move my lander/offer over to other traffic sources. It seems like this lander isn't going to easily move from geo to geo so I'll need to start from scratch with any new geo to do things properly. One thing I did notice is that the offer slightly differed from geo to geo, perhaps that should've been my sign that my lander wasn't going to just similar numbers across geos.
Good to know. Now on to the next traffic source!
curtmoney, you are actually doing great, you are converting offers. Screw the ROI, you're not in it to make money (at this stage), the goal is to get that damn data. So keep launching like a monster!
Good luck bro, I've subscribed.
Current Stats:
9/3/2015-9/4/2015
campaign 1:
spent: $3.22
made: $4.50
ROI: +43%
campaign 2:
spent: $7.32

So campaign 1 is my highly targeted campaign on my first traffic source. I spun that one back up just to see how it would do. The good news is, it's profitable!! The bad news is that it's a tiny amount of traffic. I got 491 visits, 15 clicks and 2 conversions in what's almost been 24 hours. I'm profitable though so I can't complain!
Campaign 2 is running on a new, pop-under providing traffic source. On this one I kind of expected to lose money, I'm running it pretty broad across the category that was profitable for me on my first traffic source. I am using the same lander too and I'm running it in the same smaller geo. I'm getting more traffic there, but not a ton. I'm still going to run it over the next few days and see if I can tweak my campaign to see if I can improve my conversion rate. We'll see.
Overall, I'm encouraged by the process. It's good to have one campaign actually be profitable, even it's only by a $1. With that being said, I didn't start AM with the sole intention of making an extra few bucks a day. I'm going to give this campaign a few more days but if I can't get it making some more money, then I'm thinking it might be time to move on to another offer/niche.
Current Status:
I took my best lander and went to popads, deciding that I would try to see if I could a profitable campaign going there. Over the past few days I've been running and cutting. I'll run my lander for a day, then target the campaign a little more. I remove underperforming categories and add the performing siteids to the "Included" websites under the "Website Targeting" tab. I'm guessing that is effectively a whitelist. The good news is, again, I'm close to being profitable but I seem to be targeting myself out of traffic.
My lander also just doesn't seem to be performing as well on popads. My CTR hovers around 2-5% and my CR hovers around 0-3%. Could be I need to go back to split testing my lander for the traffic I'm getting on this traffic source or I need to move on to another offer/geo/traffic source.
I'm going to give it one more day. If I can't get my campaign profitable, then I'm going to have a chat with my AM and potentially jump to another off and/or geo. I feel like I'm playing with the smallest of pennines and I'm working too hard for the amount of traffic/profit that is possible with the geo, traffic source, and offer that I'm currently using.
You need to cloak pretty much everything on FB. Nobody knows exactly where their line is with what they will and will not accept. It's just wiser to set up that flow and get in the habit of running traffic on that source that way. GL!
Popads sucked for me with iphone sweeps. Tried many different landers and iphone sweep offers.
I was getting conversions, just not enough
So I'm going back to the drawing board. I have3 different landing pages (different angles, different styles) I'm going to split test against. I'm confident in the potential of the offer, I just lost confidence in the one landing page I was using that I thought was my winner. I think that I wanted it to be a winner so much that I kept running it when I probably should not have. Going to start split testing these new landers today and will see how it goes.
What did the statistical significance say?
How paranoid you must be to think I'm only just collecting IP addresses of people who click my signature links.
so i've been running those 3 landing pages for a couple of days now and the statistical significance is seemingly telling me that something is wrong, lol. I have not received any conversions despite getting a good number of clicks.
I started out with 3 different landers, each of which varied quite a bit stylistically. After the first day, it was obvious that the 1st lander was not going to be a contender. It had the weakest CTR by far so i decided to take it out of rotation from there on out. The other 2 landers had decent CTRs (over 3%) but no conversions yet. I decided to keep them running just to see if they would start to pick up conversions. And they haven't. Here are the current stats:
lp 2:
visits: 3,636
clicks: 133
conversions: 0
cost: $20
lp 3:
visits: 3,610
clicks: 109
conversions: 0
cost: $20
This is kind of odd to me since I've usually received some conversions by now with landers i've used in the past, which have been close stylistically to the ones i'm currently using. Just to be safe, I've paused them for now and have reached out to my AM just to make sure the offer is still active and running. I can't pull up the offer myself but I'm attributing that to me being in a different geo (and I don't have any kind of VPN i could use to try to view it from another location). After I get confirmation about the offer having issues or not, I'll decided how to proceed. Either I'll be trying this offer on another network (if the offer wasn't or isn't acting right), or I'll be adding a new lp or two into the testing mix in an attempt to find one that's more promising.
Onward and upward!
also, lol @ jennatalia's "only just collecting IP addresses"
I haven't read the entire thread, but are you sure the offer is good? As in it actually converts? Pretty good CTR's on your landers could mean the offer is just bad.
From previous landers i've used, I know that I can get conversions with this offer. Or at least I did back then, so that's why I thought something might be wrong with the offer currently. Just to be safe, I am looking into using a similar offer from another network. I still haven't heard back from my AM yet either so I'm not sure yet if there is an issue with the offer or not.
So I STILL haven't heard back from my AM at this network (oasis ads) I was running the offer from, and I hadn't heard from the AM I had at the other network where I was planning on jumping to next (affiliaxe) so I'm going to try a couple of other networks, mundo media and clickdealer particularly, and see if I can get things started there. I'm not the biggest fish in the pond (yet...) so I totally understand me not being a priority for the networks I hadn't heard from. Maybe they're on vacation or the AMs I had left the company, who knows, it's all good. I'm opening to get in today and to get some offers picked out at least so I can start running them late today or early tomorrow.
