An Anti-Climatic Start

Hi Everyone, this is my first follow-along campaign. I probably should have done this sooner, before launching the offer. So far little has happened, which is neither good or bad. Here are the details.

Traffic Source: Decisive
Vertical: Utility Apps Installs
Offer: 360 Security
Geos: Israel
Payout: $0.20

Budget: $35 per day
CPC: $0.50 CPC (See below for why)
Linking: Directing linking to Google+.

Angles: I have eight different angles, with short, easy to read copy. Some are general, some specific to what the app does, and some push the idea of saving time, and one that targets women.
Banners: I’ve got five static 300x50 banners and five 300x250 banners.
Landing page: None, but will test once something happens.

At launch I set these targeting parameters in Decisive: Mobile, Site, Android. Cell Carriers: HOT Mobile, Golan Telecom, Orange Israel. Device Manufacturers: Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, and Android. Smart CPM $0.20.

After two days with no bids or clicks showing on Decisive, I cloned the campaign in Decisive and reduced the targeting parameters to just Mobile, Site, and Android. I also changed CPC to $0.50. Since reducing, I’ve gotten 2 wins in the last hour. No clicks or conversions yet.

BTW, I’m quite sure that the lack of data is not a tracking/linking problem. Voluum showed the number of visits when I clicked on the campaign link in Decisive. Those clicks also showed up on AffiliaXe.

I’m actually finding all this hilariously anti-climatic. I was ready for the worst crash-and-burn of a rookie campaign. Yet it’s as if the Wright brothers never got their first airplane off the ground enough for it to fly or crash. Anyways, I’ll keep at it till this thing flies. I’ll post any updates worth mentioning.

Questions:
In the testing stage of an offer, is it a good idea to set CPC higher than the payout? I assume one would lower it once data starts coming in.
Are there any potential red flags that you see in my campaign?
Any recommendation on how I can at least start getting clicks?

Thanks for the input!

Yeah I feel you! Without traffic you can't even begin to collect data or optimize anything. Caurmen's post here would be just the thing for you:

Good luck and keep us posted!

Try some other traffic sources as well.

I would recommend go2mobi. Their interface is very newbie-friendly and they have a lot of targetting options.

To be honest with you the pay out is way too low. At 0.20$ you'll most likely never be able to get it profitable in a small country like Israel.

I would suggest to test another app install campaign - there's plenty out there that pay +1$ and test some other traffic sources as well. For apps I'd recommend Facebook, GDN or basically any RTB platform you can get started with a small $$ treshold.

I agree with cmdeal, if you dont get enough traffic you should think about testing another traffic source.

On top of that, I can tell you that although Israel is a good GEO for this offer, the top GEOs we see for this offer in the last 7 days are Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan so you might also want to try targeting these countries.

Hey dude, you really need to use the data Decisive provides for you. You've created banners with the following sizes:

300x50
300x250

Let's take a look at the available impressions for those dimensions:

300x50 >> 153,300
300x250 >> 1,094,847

Doesn't look like much. What have we missed?

320x50 >> 17,113,122

Might not be the only reason why your traffic is rather low, but keep that in mind. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. A lot of awesome recommendations. I'll implement changes and post any important updates.
