I'm sitting here scratching my head.
I have a cloaked FB camp, it's been running fine for a few weeks.
Then yesterday, traffic dove off a cliff. 90% of the traffic FB was reporting wasn't hitting my cloaker (assuming that means 90% of traffic has JS disabled). Secondary JS based tracking confirmed that 90% of traffic has JS disabled and it's not the cloaker scrubbing traffic.
The traffic that did make it to the cloaker had no referrer, various user agents. LP CRT is off the charts at 80% when typical is 10-20% (again suggesting bots?). I have one other camp showing the same symptoms, but a bunch of others that are running normally.
So I guess my question is WTF is going on? As far as I can tell FB is just hitting me with 90-95% bot traffic on this camp.
Any ideas?
I bet if you click on your ad from FB you get the "this is not a safe link, are you sure you want to continue"
check the referrer in your cloaker, do you see l.facebook.com or something similar? If so, linkshim
what jason a said.
Quick update to this:
This was an OG:URL/Canonical issue, they were set as "http://exampledomain.com/article " with a space at the end, fixed to "http://exampledomain.com/article/" and everything returned to normal.
So a problem with our development team not being QA oriented, issue was fixed and hasn't returned.
