Fail Fast, Fail Hard and make this Mobile ThinG Work!! :-)

Hey There! My name is Rick, 26 years old and I’m from Holland!

In my daily life I’m a manager in a phone store. My job is ok but doesn’t give me the satisfaction and freedom I want. Almost every minute I have besides my job I spent at learning AM since the last couple months. I was just wandering in the dark until I finally decided to join STM. Since I joined STM my learning curve went up way faster along with my greed to make this thing work for me.

It’s a long post because it’s my first and I want to tell where I started and where I am now. See of you keep reading, thank you, if you’re not… I understand haha

Why AM?

well I can keep this short and simple. I guess it’s like the most of you… Freedom. The chance to work from wherever you got internet!
This AM thing got something mystical. I never heard of it before and when I did it immediately got my attention and kept it.
Normally things bore me pretty fast and I went to the next thing but this thing is different.

So enough talking!
Let’s make this thing work for me!

So where did I start?

As advised I started making I very simple business page for myself to improve my change of getting accepted when signing up for the networks. So far I got accepted at:

For offers:
- Clickbank
- Avazu
- Addiliate
- Clicxy
For traffic:
- Decisive
- Zeropark
- Go2Mobi

Setting up my first campaign following the appetizer method.

The first offer I tried was a sweep offer.
The offer: €150,- dollar voucher CPL
Network: Clicxy
Payout: $1
Traffic source: Decisive
Angle: Join the newest trends with this money
GEO: NL

I chose the NL geo because it’s not a tear 1 country and I don’t have to deal with translation yet

For this offer people just had to fill in their first name, second name, e-mail address and birth date and a conversion would me made.
How easy can this thing be? This is child work! Everybody can do this! (Sure Rick……)

The appetizer method
I set everything up following the appetizer method and gave it a go. At first the traffic came in real real slow… so I went looking at the STM forum for solutions. I found the post about setting it to Flat CPM and gave it another spin. Traffic came in much faster now especially on the WiFi campaigns. I played a bit with the biddings and see what difference it would make. The campaigns running at WiFi came in real quick but I can’t get campaings run smoothly on Mobile network.

Any tips from the pro’s here?

After a couple days I spend $15,26 on Wifi App, $17,16 on Wifi Site and was still stuck on $0,55 on Mobile App and $0,42 on Mobile Site.
It’s not that much of a problem yet since I’m just trying to get a feeling about launching campaign’s but I need to know how to make it work on mobile as well .
Like a newbie I couldn’t keep my eyes off the stats and watched it like an eagle.

Show me the Yeyoo!!

The results from my first campaing???
12.810 clicks and not a single conversion! WTF? 12.810 clicks and nobody filled in that freaking form??? Auch… maybe it’s not that easy after all haha..
there was clearly something wrong. I couldn’t beleave it so I asked my AM if there is something wrong but the answer was that everything is alright and indeed no conversion was made…
I guess I have to go back to the design table than!

Setting up the second round.

Same offer different banners. The first set of banners where all solid banners so I thought why not give it a try with GIF banners. You see them everywhere so they have to work right? I never made a GIF banner before but I got almighty youtube to help me out . I learned how to make GIF banners and made a new set of banners.

Round 2!
Well I can keep this really short and simple… it didn’t work out the way it would but HEY! I’m learning! This time I only had 5223 clicks, so not even half of the solid banners and still no conversion.

What did I learn?
- GIF banners doesn’t have to be better than solid banners
- It’s not so easy to get a conversion
- I have find another way

It’s not really learning but I noticed that with the 2nd campaign also the Mobile App spend money but Mobile Site it still stuck on $0,79. No clue what makes that much of a different because the bidding and banners are the same for both.

So what’s next?

I read that having a lander for sweeps would improve your conversion ( I say improve because multiply 0 is kina discouraging :P ). I have basic knowledge of HTML from codeacedemy.com but never made a lander. I have to learn how to make a lander for mobile and how to get it online and setting it up with tracking.
I haven’t find a good post/tutorial about making a mobile lander yet.

Anyone can link me to a make a lander for newbies tutorial?

Meanwhile I’m going to just launch 2 more campaigns just to fail faster and get more knowledge.

Offer 1: Another sweep but in a different sector but still geo: NL payout: $1
Offer 2: A game install but this one is GEO: Turkey payout: $4

Can’t give you any details yet since they are running at this very moment. But I combined GIF and solid banners but still without a lander.
O yeah.. no conversion so far 

To do list:
- Learn to make a landing page
- Learn to set the landing page online with proper tracking
- Having my first mastermind call tomorrow
- Becoming better at copywriting by reading Ca$hvetising
- Fail faster, Fail harder and improve knowledge and skills
- Getting my freaking first conversion!

So this is the first post of my follow along and I hope I didn’t bore you all to death with it. To be honest I was kina hesitating to post a follow along at all because I hate it to be a newbie at something and even more to show it! But at the other hand… who isn’t. Everybody got to start somewhere right? And I know I need your help to get where I want to go.
I’m trying to do my best to keep this follow along as good as possible and use it more like diary. I think writing about the stuff will sketch a picture for me as well and force me to look back and forward.

Questions so far:
- Can’t seem to get the campaigns to run in NL for mobile network. No matter if I set the bid on $15 or $1.
- On the second run mobile network did work on Mobile app and it still didn’t work for Mobile site with the same settings and banners.. Whatsup with that?
- Any tips for learning how to make a proper mobile lander for someone who never made one before?

Chears!

Rick

Awesome RIck! Great to see you taking some serious action

What were your banner CTRs like? Do you have any that are standing above the rest so far? If you want you can post them on here too and we can try to critique them for you.

As for the landing pages, yeah I find that they're pretty essential for sweeps campaigns.

If I was you, instead of reinventing the wheel and creating new landers from scratch, I would get my spying hat on and go around finding the best looking landers and rip them (right click save as, or something like sitesucker), analyse them, play with them and try them myself.

That way you'll get a bit of an idea of what good landing pages look like and also start to get more familiar with the process of uploading them/playing with the code etc.

Great that you're in a mastermind - if you guys follow Mr Green's guidance on how to run masterminds then I'm sure you'll get much value out of it!

Unsure what your traffic problem is... What size banners are you using? Have you checked the Decisive planner for the traffic you're after?: https://app.decisive.is/planner/Netherlands/

I would also like to see the banners ^^

Also what kind of spy tools would you recommend?

Thnx for the reply Ruby,

At my first campaign the average CTR was 3,75% at the end. There is still one running with an CTR at 22% but its not going really fast. It doesn't cost me much ether so i'm not putting it on hold for now.

I was already looking at posts about spying to see how other people do make it work but today i really took my first steps. I signed up at WRW and started following the iAmAttilla's Tutorial with is a must read for everybody! Thank you very much iAmAtilla for sharing your wisdom

The thing i noticed that at spying at a app called Jungle Heat the best performing banners are just pictures without any angle or whatsoever.

One of my banners:

One so they say performing banner:

I was reading comments about Jungle heat and i found out that many people where saying that Junlge Heat was way more fun and good looking than Clash of Clans so i worked that out in most of my banners. But i havent found 1 banner with anything on it besides the name " Jungle Heat" . So next to the banners i'm already running i'm going to run a couple banners with images and just the name of the game in it.. Update will come :-)

The sweepstakes is something different. it's kinda tough finding banners and landing pages for the sweeps i'm running at the moment. i followed the tutorial from iAmAttilla and havent found what i'm looking for .It's kinda funny that what i did found was my own banner haha

This is the one i found on WRW

Well, it was an information overload today and my head is spinning :roll eyes:
I'll just grap myself a beer and give it a break.

Give it another go tomorrow with an empty head.

Chears!

I've bin using WRW for a couple of hours now using the trial period. I do finds some information and banners but i can't seem to find the information about
the campaigns i'm running at the moment. I think i leave it with the trial period for now and use the money for my campaigns and try to learn spying on different ways like HMA.

I do have a couple of newbie questions:
- In the tutotial from iAmAttila he says: What is important is to take a note of the top traffic sources, these have been proven to work so if you want to promote this offer - start there! Also look at the iframe hosts/placements - these are sites that worked well for this offer, again start there if you are budget limited.

In this scenario Admob is the place to start? But is Admob isn't something like an add planner as Decisive is it? I know it will sound pretty stupid for the people who knows but its kinda confusing to me. Because of all the test i ran i never saw something like decisive, go2mobi or zeropark come bye. Most of the time it's something like Admob, Leadbolt or Mediabuy and i don't understand how to "Start there".

And what does the iFrame hosts tell me?

And how can i see witch country is performing the best for a specific app?

Because of lack of time i wasn't able to fully test everything i wanted en to really understand the possibility of WRW and i haven't found 1 landing page from the campaigns i'm running.
I think i can't make the subscription price worth it for me right now so i think it will be better for me to start with another spying method.
I'll start with using HMA and see whats out there

Admob is pretty huge but not very affiliate-friendly, I wouldn't start there if I was you.

But you've got the right idea.

If you're spying manually like with HMA, when you click on ads, watch the url and you should see what traffic source the ad is being run through.

Just a small update for now.

Paused the campaigns for now because i know what i'm doing isn't working. I realize it's a good thing i made a start to better understand everything but
I need a new approach now. I won't stop running campaigns but going trough with these campaigns is throwing money into a hole :-)

There is one standing out with 23% Clicks. Good for 1722 clicks in 7 days and only costing me $1,10 but not converting haha.
It has a $1 payout but i need to find a way to make it convert first.

The stats:

Finch premium post also shined a new light on everything. It's very interesting and fun to read!

As the great Albert said: “Problems cannot be solved with the same mind set that created them.” So that's exactly what im up to right now. Changing my mind.

I also got my first Skype call application yesterday to join Adsimilis and with succes! :-D So thats a new barrier breached for me .

Things to do for today:

- Learn to make mobile landers with Dreamweaver
- Make an account at HMA and start spying to see whats working these days
- Setting op a Voluum account
- Start a new campaigns with different banner sizes than 320 x 50 see what impact it has
- Read some more :roll eyes:

Regarding that $1 campaign - you probably already know that $1 is not neeeeeeeearly enough data to be making any decisions on. You've gotta remember the amount of variables you're testing at the same time (banners, cell providers, OS', placements, etc etc).

Finch's posts are great

A lot of learning on your plate today - exciting times

Keep hustling!

Small update just to show i'm still alive and to keep myself thinking of where i'm at. :-)

as planned i did spend the day learning the basics of dreamweaver and refresh my basic HTML knowledge.
I also did make an HMA account and started spying but skipped the Voluum part because i didn't knew it was that expensive and since im not launching at the moment not worth it.

And about spying, man you guys make it sound see easy but it's pretty hard to find anything worth it.
I probably doing it wrong or something and have to spend some more time on it.

Even tough i force myself to wake up everyday 6:15 AM so i can spent a 2.5 hours at AM before i go to work it still isn't going as fast as I want it to go. I thought standing up this early would be a problem for me because im not really a morning type of guy but i'm doing pretty ok for 2 weeks in a row haha.

I will spend my time this weekend mastering the spying skill and working at a group project from the mastermind group i joined. I really see the value of having a group and learn from each other.

Is it wise to master spying skill first before i take any other action or would the more experienced people advise me otherwise?

Got to go to my daily Job
Thnx for you time.

Cheers!

Bin a while since my last update :-)

I haven't sit still and bin working on my progress everyday. There is still so much to learn.
Since the last time i have bin signing up in a lot of networks and traffic sources me and the members
of my mastermind have a lot of offers to choose from and can all work on the same offer.
I left the banner advertising part for what it is for now en switched over to traffic sources like PopAds and Zeropark.

I'm working on multiple campaings and yes i got my first conversion! yeey! haha
Hey its only $2,- but i have never bin so happy with $2,- in my life :P

I have still some trouble with letting Voluum track my campaigns accordingly. The costs doesn't match and the conversion
wasn't tracked ether so i'm working that out right now. Think i'm going to whats Zeno's vid tutorial one more time :-) (thnx for that one Zeno)

Name:	stats.jpg

As you can see in the image it didn't see the conversion that was made and the cost are at $54,09 but it only spent $9,56 today.
I'm sure its something very simple and stupid and i'm sure i'll work that out

Things to do for now:
- Fix the tracking
- Split test on other traffic sources
- Work on some more landers
- Do some more spying
- Launch some more
- Get more than 1 conversion ( hope this happens before this list is done:P )

Oh yeah and the early wake ups didn't work out after all so i'm a taking the night route again.

Cheers! :-)

Here are my few suggestions:

1. Leave decisive. They have loads of bot traffic and you have to keep a tight eye on placement.
2. Use tracker. I suggest you to use Voluum or Adsbridge. Adsbridge is free
3. Gather data from multiple traffic source. Try popups for voucher offers.

Hope this will help you.

Thnx Moazam,

Thnx for the tips!

Is Go2Mobi still ok or does it also have a lot of bot traffic? I was planning to test the campaigns on Go2Mobi as well later on.
I'm using Voluum as tracking software now and i think i fixed the tracking problem. ill now that for sure by tomorrow :-)

i ran my offer just on PopAds till now but im going to run it on zero park tomorrow as well first thing in the morning.
