Great read.

My question: Is there a way to control the AND, OR in targetting?

Let's say I wanted to target lesbian crossfitters who eat Paleo diet? Is the default behavior of interests AND or OR?

The interests would be: Crossfit, Paleo,ellen degeneres (more than likely a terrible combination, but you get the idea.

the way i use to promote on FB was always with AND.
each day i have created at least 20-30 campaigns with different combinations and after few hours of running (usually i let it run all night with limited budget) i could optimize the campaigns.
always try different combinations.
and you wouldn't imagine how "terrible" combinations such as your example can work very well sometimes

Oh cool, I need to revamp the FB guides and this looks to relieve some of the work!

FYI @ the AND/OR operator... some combinations are strictly one or the other. Some you can choose, but often you can only choose the operator through the Facebook API i.e. Power Editor or a PMD, often in the Power Editor only if you're lucky.

Facebook has been working on having better operators for quite a while but with limitations, because using too many is too much of a load on their system. Imagine 100,000 advertisers all trying to calculate audiences for 13 AND segments followed by A & B but NOT C, then overlapping that with D but NOT E, then finally overlapping with Z. Lots of back-end crunching of big data only to produce an audience of 100 people haha. Too much control leads to customers getting confused.

In the power editor - I am not seeing where to specify AND?

Or are you implying that some targeting combinations together create an AND statement.

E.G If job title is specified, interest is added the combined audience would be "dancers who have an interest in breaking bad" , "registered nurses who have an interest in euthanasia", "police officers who have an interest in the show - How to get away with murder".

I suppose the best way to test this - with the audience size estimate, correct? If the size decreases, the AND operator is being used, if it increases the OR operator is being used.
