Headings called misleading. Where have I gone wrong?

Hey all,

My Offer: 360 mobile security

I'm new to AM, so after choosing my first offer, I spent 3+ hours creating 8 banners. My AM then informed me they would have little chance of being approved by the advertisers as they are misleading.

My first lesson: Show the AM the headlines FIRST, and THEN spend time making banners for the things that will approved! Duh...

Anyway...

As my AM won’t be contactable for the rest of the day and for most of tomorrow, I wont be able to get any further info on the specifics of the issues.
Therefore, it would be great if anyone here would be able to highlight the specific things in my banners that are misleading. This is so I don't make the same mistakes again, and can create new ones tonight!

I went for the 'protecting your phone from viruses/threats' angle.

The banners:

Let me know what you think.

This is really weird! I don't see anything misleading about your banner text. The only things I see that could get your ads rejected are the facebook logo and the android robot.

Please do let us know what your AM tells you - I'd be really curious to find out!

The 'you have a virus' angle is 99% not allowed by neither advertisers or traffic sources. If you look at the compliance guidelines for both you will find out all the reasons why your ads haven't been approved by the advertiser. I can't even count all of them Based on the traffic sources and offers I run, you break all the compliance guidelines, haha.

I think it will have to be back to the drawing board for the banners and angle..

Manu.

I would avoid using the FB and Android robot logo, many exchanges won't deal with that...

Misleading-wise, most aren't really misleading at all vs the aggressive things people have done - but you need to understand the marketplace and current climate. By mentioning viruses and infections you are shooting yourself in the foot - advertisers and traffic sources/exchanges won't even care to give you time of day. They don't want "your type" anymore.

I see nothing is wrong with your banners, honestly. Perhaps like what Zeno have mentioned, it could be the FB and Android robot logo. What I'll normally do is I'll create banners with the app's logo itself. This could increase your click through rate in a way, depends on how you write your angle/ headline.

If you haven't subscribe to any spy tool already, you may want to try with the trial version of WhatRunsWhere that cost only $1. You may want to write a better angle/ headline, be creative instead of aggressive. I have spent hours of time creating banners/ LP with aggressive headlines but later on advertisers refused to pay me because of the weak quality leads I may have sent in. If you want to scale your campaigns eventually, think about your retention rate.

Read Ca$hvertising for creative ad content, headline, etc.. That is a bible I have kept since day one I stepped into affiliate marketing. Just my sincerest two cents.

Thanks all - after speaking to my Aff manager, he mirrored all of your sentiments. It's due to me implying that the user has a virus.

Lesson learnt!

I guess it back to the drawing board

This is what confused me, from using whatrunswhere, I found that a lot of banners mention the word 'viruses' and 'infections'. I tried to do a spin off that!

I think you're right, my headlines were definitely more aggressive that creative. Thanks for the heads up!

The advertiser must be really picky. You didn't even hint that people's phones had viruses on them. You were just pointing out the risks.

I guess there's nothing you can do if it's the advertiser that doesn't like your banners. DO keep in mind that you can be more aggressive than that with traffic sources. Even go2mobi approved most of my banners and some of them are definitely more aggressive than what you have.

Also keep in mind that there ARE other offers out there. Unless this offer has a high enough payout to offset the competitive disadvantage, I would definitely test other offers.

Another update: My aff manager sent the ads to advertisers - and they've approved them!

I suppose they mustn't have been that bad then!

Thanks for all the advice peeps.

LOL Thanks for the vote of confidence! However, I have zero experience with POF. I'll leave the job to members that have more knowledge and experience in that area. Great follow-along as far as I can tell! Keep it up!

Just another heads up. The exclamation point in a triangle is considered a native system alert so it might also contribute to your approval problem. (In addition to the ones mentioned above).
