What kind of info can I reveal to my Affiliate Manager?

Hi guys/gals,

What kind of information would you generally keep private from your affiliate managers? I just joined a new network and I'd like to share as much as possible with my AM but I'm also weary of giving away a campaign. So in general what would you keep private? Traffic sources etc?

Thanks in advance!

Firstly, you don't need to give any information if you don't want to. IP is everything for an affiliate, you want to make sure you protect yours well.

The affiliate manager/affiliate manager can be a extremely beneficial or an extremely harmful relationship.

It's a trust thing.

I've had some amazing affiliate managers who I've shared everything with, they have helped me a lot, I helped them, it was a win win.

Other affiliate managers I've caught sharing my campaigns with other pubs. So I dropped them and the network they were working for.

If you are starting out you can afford to be more open with them if you don't have anything big going. As long as they are helping you too, then it's a good start!

Thanks Mr. Green. What about things such as landing page approvals? Is that a judgment call, i.e. share it first but switch it up as we optimize/test it? I assume the AM doesn't need to review every iteration.

^^ it's really case by case. If you are running an offer that is extremely sensitive with terms then you should share it. One way to get around protecting your campaign is by just sharing the text, and not the design .

Another good way is make a lot of creative and bury the good ones in with the crap.

Just a word of warning, we have many merchants that if they catch you won't pay. Especially the Chinese are getting this way. They're putting out bounties to affiliates to look for other affiliates that are running uncompliant and then paying them to rat them out. Then they just don't pay the affiliate their comissions. Net/net the merchant wins.

Also, there are many vary sensitive verticals so make sure you ask your AM. We were just at a merchants and it's a 79 step process internally to build and approve a creative. If they catch anything running not approved it's immediate freeze and non-payment.

Be careful.

I agree with Mr. Green that it is a by case basis- however if you know the offer is a top desktop/mobile game or mainstream dating offer, don't be too surprised if they ask you to submit creatives for approval. From my experience, these advertisers essentially want to make sure that their brand is not misleading the user or being misrepresented. Personally, there haven't been any issues for my affiliates when submitting creatives to advertisers.
