Hello STMers - I released an excerpt from my upcoming book, "The Angle." There was some great discussion about the book in the STM thread about The Angle documentary, which you can see here:

The reason I am reposting is that I also would love to hear from STMers as further material for the book.
You can see from the link above what tone the book will take, and the most valuable stories are going to be those that help me make the subject matter interesting to a broader audience. So if there is a story you have experienced firsthand that you tell people who are not in the industry in order to illuminate the audience - I would love to hear it (PM me). I will keep names confidential where requested to do so but the book is non-fiction so I'll be looking for ways to cross check the stories.
Here are some of the topics I'm going to explore in the book, bearing in mind that I'll be using people's stories to do so:
- That AM is capitalism at its most naked - with all the implications that brings with it.
- That there is a paradox to the concept of "Make Money Online" - namely that you can, in fact, make money online by following the advice that people are selling...to make money online.
- That AM and internet marketing, by monetizing attention efficiently, have an effect on capitalism itself, because attention is capital.
- That AM and internet marketing are representative of the nature of work the New Economy.
- That the methods used in AM are on the cutting edge of marketing, both blackhat and whitehat.
- That while AMers come from literally all walks of life, they have certain traits in common, chief among them self-awareness and self improvement.
- That the industry is maturing from its cowboy roots, much like other transformative industries before it.
These will of course change as I talk with more people, but hopefully the list gives you all a sense of what is coming. And, as I said before, these are all ideas that I plan to get across with as many personal stories, good, bad, and unbelievable, as I can find.
