Do You Worry About the Quality of The Offer?

One of the steps I often do when deciding whether to promote an offer is looking at reviews, and sometimes testing it myself (I'm talking specifically about apps and CPS type offers). Recently I looked at booking.com and even though it's performing well on several networks, the review are, well, less that stellar...

So my question is do you guys look at reviews when promoting a product? Will you choose not to promote it if the reviews are poor?

Scott

Depends if my name is connected to it while promoting...
The person who hates the app or whatever probably doesn't hate you because he doesn't even know what an affiliate is.
They are just bitching about the product/service they use. And in the end it's the vendors problem, not yours.

Sure. Not only do you not want to push crap to your users, you also will want to think about the impact on conversions. If this is an app, then in order to download, the user will need to eventually get to the Google Play or Apple App Stores. There they WILL see the star ratings. If it is amost 5 stars, that will reinforce their decision to download. If it is 1 star ... then they will probably have second thoughts. You have already paid for the media traffic, so sorry, now you are out of luck.

Yup exactly this. This is why it's also important to jump on an offer when it's fairly new (less bad reviews, search results with complaints) if you're promoting an offer in a space where it's hard to avoid that. Or you could just promote quality offers that convert with great user experience to begin with.

as an affiliate - we are not concerned with anything other than the $$$, why not just run and see if it makes $$$? if it does milk it while it lasts, if it doesnt there is no more conversation. the salesman is not concerned nor responsible for the offer. thats the job of the offer owner.

as a business - you now have a reputation, $$$ is reliant on this reputation, we are concerned with stability and long term, future deals. the customers know you. you will want to make sure you push good products, so that there is customer and advertiser trust. you make alot more $$$ with less effort this way. but its not easy to get here. the moment you launch, you see unreal ROI and profit, thats because of the reputation we need to protect, not so much of the angle or offer

Depends how bad the reviews are and what the reason for the bad reviews is.

If the reviews are mixed but the app appears to be legitimately trying to do what it's intended to do, sure, I'll run a test campaign and see how it does.

But if the reviews are all saying that the app's actively malicious, malware, etc - nah. There are plenty of legit offers out there I could run instead.

I am not sure that is the case for most affiliates. While they may differ on where they draw their own line on what they do or don't feel comfortable promoting, the great majority of affiliates I know certainly don't take the view that they will do anything just to make money.

I am pretty sure that if you are honest with yourself, you probably don't feel that way either. Certainly you wouldn't promote heroin dealing or human trafficking just because someone offered you some money to do so.

yep that's right, which is why we moved towards studying the offer. delivering true value to the customer by ensuring the offer is good is a better long term proposition than purely following the money.

unfortunately sometimes we still have to promote a less than excellent offer since we don't always have control over it.
