Amazon VS Alibaba (2)

07-21-2015 02:59 PM #1 fishinseo ()

Im assuming Aliexpress numbers are included in Alibaba's numbers since they are the same company. Aliexpress is the ecommerce side of Alibaba.

The two are giants, but are in no way competitors. Amazon is for the normal, everyday retail goods buyer. Alibaba is for wholesale buyers. Aliexpress is for retail buyers like Amazon, but only Chinese sellers are allowed and all goods ship from China. So, as a consumer in the US, do you want to buy goods located in the US, or in China?

Amazon has the US/UK/AU markets wrapped up. Alibaba has the far East locked up. Its just that the size of that Chinese market is HUGE. I dont see them as competitors, just two giants serving two different markets.

That was True in the past.

if you take a closer look in Alibaba and Aliexpress numbers and top Geo's you will see that they have already breached the borders of the east and started taking over the west.
in the top 10 countries of Aliexpress for example you will find RU US and a lot of European countries such As Spain Italy France and others.
I know a lot of my friends in the states that are buying from Aliexpress rather than Amazon.

here is an article from late 2014 that shows the merging of these two markets (east and West) - http://www.ibtimes.com/alibaba-us-re...-china-1726952
"Alibaba And US Retailers Teaming Up To Bring Black Friday To China"

at the end no matter the size of the Chinese market a company or to be more accurate a corporation such as Alibaba could not and would not be satisfied with only china market when he needs to always show growth for its investors.
so they will have to penetrate more markets. that's is also one of the reason for Alibaba to issue their IPO in the NY stock market rather in China. (biggest IPO Ever)

"Over the course of its fundraising roadshow, Alibaba chairman, Jack Ma said that the company would “aggressively expand” into the U.S. and Europe. Increasingly that expansion would depend on mobile applications, according to Clark-Dickson."
when this guy tells hes going to do something Aggressively i believe him

also in this time when the internet made the world a smaller place to players no matter how far they are from each other when they play the same game they are competitors as far as i see it,

never the less i think we can all agree that no matter if you chose to promote Alibaba or Amazon there is a lot of money to be made in the eCommerce vertical
