How Do I Set Up My First Campaign? (6)

Before you try to set up your first campaign, make sure that you've got everything in place. You will find it hard or impossible to start a campaign if you haven't done the ground-work first.

Check that you've gone through:

• The Most Important Element To Affiliate Marketing Success
• What Skills Do I Need Before I Start Affiliate Marketing?
• How Much Money Do I Need To Start Affiliate Marketing?
• What Software, Hardware and Memberships Do I Need Before I Start My First Campaign?

and taken all the steps and put in place all the tools listed there.

In particular, be sure you've done your research on your chosen traffic source. Spend a couple of days spying. Also, read around all the success stories, guides, and follow-along campaigns for that traffic source or similar ones on STM. Make notes of what has worked for other people.

Once you've done that, it's campaign setup time! Pick whichever one of the following sections matches the traffic source you have chosen to get started with.


Did You Choose Pops Or Redirects?

In that case, head over to Setting Up Your First (Pop) Campaign and follow the instructions there. You should also read The Math You NEED To Make Money From Your Campaigns as soon as you have your first campaign set up.

If you're not comfortable with making a landing page, also read through Do I Need To Run Landing Pages? How Do I Create Them? to get a handle on that before you begin.

Then, come back to read What's The Best Overall Strategy For Success As I Start AM? once you have gotten comfortable with your first couple of campaigns.

And do remember to start a Follow-Along Campaign once you have the very basics down, so that you can get advice from the STM community. You'll get to profit far faster that way.


Did You Choose Another Traffic Source?

We recommend that new affiliates start with pops both because they're the easiest traffic sources to master right now and because you can follow along with our detailed guides that way.

However, if you've decided to use another traffic source - perhaps because you have expertise in a relevant vertical or because you're a bit more experienced - then go over to How To Run A Campaign On Any Traffic Source to get started. You'll need to figure out how to carry out the technical details of each step yourself, but that will tell you what you need to do and why, and will point you to other guides when you need them.

Once you've run a couple of campaigns, come back and read What's The Best Overall Strategy For Success As I Start AM? And do start a Follow-Along as soon as possible - particularly if you're using an unusual traffic source the feedback will really help you out!

This guide is quite old, so there will definitely be parts in it that have changed.

I would suggest some of our more recent guide. For example Amy's 40-day tutorial can literally guide you by hand and explain the whole process in an easy step-by-step way.
