POF is being sold to the Match group for $575 million. POF, I believe, is known as a good starting spot for new affiliates who lack the financial reserves required for success in other traffic sources. You can have a small budget but still play the game so to speak, learn, hit on winning campaigns and build towards moving to a more lively traffic source.
If POF were to change its business model and no longer be a traffic source, are there other traffic sources a newbie can go to? And what kind of daily budget would they require?

Start with the lively traffic sources but budget low and start with the very low paying offers. Firstly you can collect data fast and learn how and when to cut things the more campaigns you launch (eg.placement,ads,lander, carrier,OS etc.). There is also no substitute for learning the ins and outs of a lively traffic source this where you will start building your competitive advantages. Where most newbies jump from traffic source to traffic source you will have an upper hand because of the bidding and optimization techniques that you have hone for that traffic source.
