I have been doing internet marketing on the side for about 2 years and I am learning. I do get frustrated because i feel that I should be earning more money (making about $1500 - $2000 pcm atm), but other than that i think im doing ok.
I am not sure if that makes me new to internet marketing or not. During the day I am not in marketing at all. I am a technology (design) teacher, and a father in a young family. So i dont get exposure to marketing during the rest of my time.
My marketing has evolved from basic review site, to authority sites. I have dabbled in a little bit of paid traffic also.
Every project I have done is better than the last one, in terms of learning more and making the website/marketing message better.
For my latest internet marketing project, I am focusing on a problem, and for the first time I am going to focus on capturing emails and selling mainly one product in particular (affiliate). This will hopefully allow me to monitor more closely my audience and work on my funnel (first real time for a sales funnel also)
I started researching the problem, then happened to find a product, and although its expensive I think it will be good fit (i've asked for a copy of it but haven't heard back from them)
I find that reading salesletters of popular products will always get the juices flowing. Is your product a digital / downloadable one? If so, consider modeling your salesletter after those of the most popular clickbank products.
As for interviews - the next best thing I know of, which I did quite often when I was still doing seo/email marketing, is to seek out online forums in the target niche and read all the threads with the highest post counts. This always enabled me to find the main concerns of my target audience very quickly so I could address those in my sales pitch. You could even use some of the same lingo they use!
I really admire the fact that you're able to make a full-time income from IM while working a day job AND taking care of a family! Kudos - and I look forward to seeing your journey to further success!
