Example of Thinking Outside The Box
Someone in another thread was worried about how he could possibly get ahead when everybody is constantly spying your banners and LPs. It's a good question and I think the best solution is to always be a step ahead by thinking outside the box.
I'm going to show you a landing page I used for a Walmart $100 sweeps/gift card offer. Most affiliate sweeps landers are usually in the style of "Congrats, you won!". I wanted to do something different.
In Cashvertising, there is a chapter on "Transfer - Credibility by Osmosis" which is summed up below:
Transfer is a strategy that involves using symbols, images, or ideas—
cues, if you will—commonly associated with people, groups, or institutions
of authority or respect, in order to persuade your prospect that
your product or service is in some way acceptably endorsed. And if
something is endorsed by a person or group you respect, lights flash,
bells ring, your brain spits out “instant credibility!” And if it’s something
you want and can afford, you’ll start digging for your Visa card.
One day I was watching a Frontline about the NRA and it's influence on Washington. The biggest takeaway was how feared the NRA supporters and voters are. They are fiercely protective of their guns. Watching further I figured out the psychology of it. It wasn't the
guns they feared losing, but the
freedom and security associated with the right to carry arms. When you take away their guns, you are taking away their freedom and security.
I thought about how I could link this with the Walmart offer I was testing out at the time. I did a quick google search and discovered a Fox News article about a lawsuit threatening to take guns off the shelves in Walmart. Bingo!
I picked the man they hate the most for the image, and found a way to tie a Walmart gift card to "supporting the 2nd ammendment.
Now my advertiser did not approve this, and to be honest I don't blame them. It's a touchy subject. But hopefully this helps people think a bit outside the box. You're also free to use the angle
1. Always keep your eyes and ears open
2. Constantly mix and match everything you learn
3. Test it

that's definitely an interesting angle for the right traffic.

Nice thinking.
Cant say Im surprised it wasnt approved, using a gun that is pointing to the president (although not directly) seems too aggressive.
But I really liked the thought process behind your angle.

I don't see how Walmart can win this battle by giving away gift cards...

Good point. Some people would wonder that. Would need to come up with a better logical connection.

That's very creative!
I agree with others - I think it needs a little bit more development to really have a strong connection and not mislead or confuse prospects. But the core idea and the value set behind it is really sound.
