My Road to AWA and Beyond
Funding my Affiliate Word Asia trip from Mobile
I set a goal for myself…make enough money to attend AWA!
A little about myself… I am a 23 y/o living in Vancouver, Canada. I finished school with a major in marketing.
I always knew about AM but I didn’t know where to begin so I was stuck chasing the “cooperate/agency dream”. Last summer, I was luckily enough to have a friend give me the resources to start, and with that I launched a few mobile app install campaigns. Failed. And I used “going back to school” as an excuse… which was stupid of me because I saw the phase "PERSISTENT IS KEY" in every other post…
Fast forward to today… I’m done with school; I worked at a large cooperation for a few months as a digital marketer…hated it. I found myself reading Dr.Ngo blogs everyday, which mentally prepared myself for the road ahead.
I find that experience > educated is what employers look for anyways. So if all else fails, I have a wealth of experience through AM.
What I’m going to do this time around…
1. Sign up for STM and start a follow along (check)
2. Be more involved with the forum (I may be a newbie at AM but I do have other skills)
3. Change my mind set that I’m not losing money - I’m gaining experience and data (kinda check)
4. Build upon my strengths and work on my weaknesses (working on it...codecademy )
5. And most importantly…BE PERSISTENT
Campaign
I moved away from Mobile app installs, couldn't seem to get anything working with them...
Vertical – Mobile Sweeps
Traffic – POP/DOMAIN
Accidentally left my campaign on active after approval from traffic source. Ate my daily budget within a few hours, but surprisingly, I got 5 conversions from 35 clicks, so I know the offer is working from a CTR of 0.45%.
Finally got the go ahead from AM and here are my stats for Day 1
The top is POP the bottom is DOMAIN

Overall

Not bad for my first run in with sweeps, at least its not -100% ROI
Analysis
- Domain performed a lot better than POP even though there wasn't a lot of traffic
- Hardly any placement went 3 - 4 times the payout yet so ill keep on running it
- 2/3 landers did better the the other 1 so I ended up cutting it (dw I used the split test calculator * thanks vortex for the guide)
Questions
- Is my CTR suppose to be that low? what is industry average?
- Any tips on getting CTR higher?
- I'm currently BP 1 on the DOMAIN campaign, does that mean i'm getting all the placements?
- Should I pause the POP campaign and focus on the DOMAIN campaign?
- Is it possible to do a whitelist campaign on ZP?
To Do
- Keep my campaign running without being BP 1.. maybe 3-4
- Make variations of winning landers (add some bells and whistles)
- make a few new style landers
- split test a similar offer with a sightly higher payout
Thats it for now, hopefully I'll get some better stats after cutting placements.

Not very familiar with pop traffic, but here are my suggestions.
1.What types of domains were clicking/converting? Are there any commonalities? What are the commonalities? Do they fall into the same category? Can you find more domains like those, or in that same category? Think of yourself like a sleuth, hunting for clues (aka patterns).
2. Why do you hypothesize the 2 landers converted better than the other one? Are there any other possible reasons? If you truly believe thats the reason, can you expand on that logic?
3. Yes, focus on the domain campaign, unless their is a more clear path for profitability in the pop campaign (low chance of that though)
4. Test out A LOT MORE LANDERS. I wouldve started with like 10 in rotation. Different styles, etc. These will have the biggest affect on your campaign right now, since your mission is to get more clicks to the offer at this point.
Hope that helps.

Hey mate,
Welcome on board.
Is my CTR suppose to be that low? what is industry average?
I would say no. On ZP You can easily get a CTR of over 5%. But a high CTR that doesn't convert means shit. Your CR is quite high, so do not change the angle, but tweak on your current landers and improve on the CTR.
Any tips on getting CTR higher?
Play with the images. Test multiple images that suit your angle and see how that affects things. Play with colors. Add countdown timer, add a vibrate script, add a popup or popout script.
I'm currently BP 1 on the DOMAIN campaign, does that mean i'm getting all the placements?
Something like that. I think it means, on an average, for the given choice of placements, you are the first. Bidding on ZP is strange, refer to this thread please:
http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...876#post231876
Should I pause the POP campaign and focus on the DOMAIN campaign?
The domain traffic doesn't have enough traffic to work on. You should keep working on the POP campaign and make it work.
Is it possible to do a whitelist campaign on ZP?
Yeah, you can create a target campaign instead of a RON campaign on ZP. But Whitelist campaigns is not the way to go, unless you have very high volume targets. Creating whitelists will reduce your traffic volume and low volume means low profits.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for answering my questions
I managed to put up a few more landers and ended up getting higher CTR.
However, my lower CTR landers (0.47%) are receiving more conversions than my higher ones (7%)
My landers are all over the place

Here are my overall stats for day 2
Conversions: 17
Cost: $30.59
Revenue: $10.20
ROI: -66.56

Lower cost b/c this time around I started to cut placements that were taking 3x-4x my payout
I also started to only target Android b/c IOS was taking up too much of my budget with little conversions
I took Arunbasillal advice and try to make POP work b/c the volume is there
I saw that my converting placements have enough volume for me to do a target campaign.
Questions
- I feel that Zeropark optimizing is very limited... what types of optimizing are people doing on ZP?
To Do
Test more landers
translate with other websites (using fiverr, might try elance)
Launch target campaign
apply for other networks and look for similar offer to split test
any feedback would be appreciated thank you!

Update
Here are the stats after running this campaign for 7 days.
Overall:

Ways I've tried to optimize
- Cut landers that were statistically significant of >10%
- Cut placements that are taking 3-4x my payout with 0 conversions
- Pause high volume targets with little or no conversions. (5-20k volume)
- Pause low volume targets with no conversions. (less then 1k)
- Bid up on medium volume targets with conversions (1k-5k)
- Took out IOS and b/c it was taking most of the budget with -90 ROI
- Ran target campaigns with my most successful landers, but pop still performed really badly... I optimized way to aggressively and created the whitelist too early
Analysis
- Redirects were still converting way better than Pop, even though the volume was not there
- My lower CTR landers were still converting better than my higher ones (0.50 vs 7-8%)
- Getting way too less volume for target campaign from my top 15-20 most converting placements
- I really believe this offer is converting but I'm going at it the wrong way
- Ran only my target campaigns on the weekend...FAIL
Questions
- what are ways people are being aggressive with sweepstake campaigns by being compliant?
- Is there an easier way to tell on zeropark whether it is ISP or WIFI
- When would it be a good time to say Zeropark is not working but this offer is, and move on to to another traffic?
- Is there a minimal amount of volume people are aiming for while testing
Things to do
- review the data I have so far and look for other patterns (review, plan, and relaunch)
- Research other traffic with more volume in redirects for this GEO
- Find another 2-3 offers in promising geos and start another campaign (I have to get into a routine of testing more offers at once)
- Plan my budgeting, burn through my budget pretty quickly last week... im budgeting about 500-800/month hopefully this is enough
- Start pushing more aggressive angles

l3ftshark, like your attitude, and intro. Can relate to your story, will finish uni pretty soon, and not planning to work in the corporate world (as employee). See you at AWA.
Just started my very first campaign, so cannot say much, but keep testing

Hey everyone, here's an update
Rather than testing 1 offer/campaign at once, i decided to test way more (I'm still doing sweeps). And I'm happy to say i finally hit GREEN!!
These stats are from 2 days of running (over the weekends)

There was also a campaign 6 & 7 that received no conversions and ate up my budget...
I applied tips Dr.Ngo mentioned in his blog to some existing landers and got my CTR alot higher since my previous campaign.
http://charlesngo.com/8-tactics-for-...-pages-part-1/
http://charlesngo.com/8-tactics-part-2/
I've haven't cut any placements yet because none of them are 3-4x the payout.
Next step...
- Learn how to scale...any tips?
- Try looking for patterns
- Ask my AM to give me a pay bump
- scale across multiple DSP
Questions
- Recommended traffic with high volume of redirect placements in Germany?
- Am I getting too little conversions to scale?
Rather then saying it's by luck, my goal is to understand what i'm doing and being able to replicate the success.
Thats it for now,
Cheers,

Congrats!
I'd probably run it for another couple of days before massively increasing your spend, but 2 days' data is enough to start cautiously boosting the amount you're spending on the campaign.
Looking good!

Congrats! Looking forward to meeting you in BKK

As far as I can see you're only on one traffic source? There are 10+ pops/redirects sources you can scale to pretty easily.
I can't say if they performs well for sweeps as I've been running a different vertical, but you can get good volume at Popads, Popcash, Adcash , if you feel ready for 1k minimum deposit PropellerAds, if the offer allows adult traffic Exoclick and Plugrush.
I'd scale to these traffic sources first, and as the second step trying to scale your lander and angle to similar offers in other GEOs. Sweeps are all over the world
edit: corrected adcash min deposit
