Ultra newbie question here, what exactly is scrubbing of leads?
I've heard people talk about it heaps and i know its something about the advertiser or network not paying you for leads you've sent them, but im sure there's others who could define it a lot better than i can.
Also, what would cause your leads to get scrubbed and is it more likely to happen in certain niches?
Thanks.
yeah it usually happens with email submits where the advertiser is not making a profit off your leads. Rather than just kicking you from the offer, they start scrubbing your leads. ie paying you for some portion of the leads you send, maybe 80% or so.
but this will probably will not affect you, unless your sending a few thousand bucks worth of leads per day. also, they won't do it right away.
If you want to mitigate the scrubbing, it's best to send quality leads.
this is my understanding.
Scrubbing is the advertiser shaving leads from you to balance their books
i got sick of this shit so i crrated my own offers that i run exclusively. No scrubbing or bs.
Whats worst with scrubbing or shaving is you cant ever prove it due to the fact that everyday is different. Traffic behaves differently on a monday vs a sunday etc.
Scrubbing can be the rejection of your lead due to the fact that the merchant already has that lead on their database, as the user has already signed up on another of the merchant's sites. But how are we to know that?
While we're at it, 'partials' or partial sign-up is a pain too. Where the prospect completes their user details on the merchant's site, but doesn't enter their credit card data at the end. As the conversion pixel is on the order completion page it doesn't get triggered and we don't get paid, BUT they already have the user's info. Do you really think they don't use that? Yeah, right ... but we don't get paid.
If you run privately with the merchant, you can often get a payment for partials and a higher payment for a full conversion depending upon your negotiation skills. It's all part of the 'fun' of AM.
Awesome response from the STM community as usual, thanks everyone!
So scrubbing generally happens behind the scene without you being aware? And perhaps for example, every 5 leads that you send only 4 appear as conversions in your tracking data, so even if you suspect scrubbing there's no real proof?
