Offers Selection - Dilemma Worth Millions - Still Unsolved
Hi,
I have been active-inactive in this AM game for last 6-8 months because of SEO projects I was handling.
But now, I AM ALL IN. Have hired a team to handle other stuff so I can 100% commit to app install offers.
Just one problem - offer selection.
I do talk to affiliate managers, I do look at numbers like volume and EPC and I do test-test-test but offer selection is a big problem.
If an offer is doing great volume that means some AF badass has already covered all inventory that newby can get hands on. If it's not doing good, newbie will be always skeptical about the performance and hence amateurishly stopping campaigns. And if something gets going there are restrictions or pausing offers that would make life hell.
I mean, I am ready to spend $1000-2000 on testing 10-20 offers and spending 12 hours daily burning my oils.
But if there is any scientific method that would ensure I am selecting right offers, it would be great.
I do understand that right offers can be found after testing only but I just want to make sure I am following right path to reach there so I haven't burnt my oils right near destination..
I have accounts with clickdealer, f5media, mundo, matomy, yeahmobi etc. Want to start with Asia, and mainly India.
Thanks in advance for your inputs guys.
Regards,
Priyank.

I don't think these assumptions are necessarily valid.
If they were, then taken to their logical extreme, there would be much much fewer success stories in AM than there actually are.

I'm not familiar with those networks, but I do a fair amount with Neverblue. My AM gives me a weekly offer report. He includes CR, EPC and most importantly revenue ranges. The revenue information has been a huge help to me. The stats don't include private offers, so most of the stats are for affiliates working the basic offer. It tells me whether it's worth focusing on or not.
For mobile apps, the top offer is 50% of the revenue for all apps. The top 5 are 88% of the revenue.
For mobile more broadly, the top 25 offers make up 90% of the revenue.
So, if it's not one one of those top lists I ignore it. The only other ones I look at are new offers.
I wouldn't be surprised if the other networks had a similar strong skew to the top offers.

I'm no expert on the topic - but if the app is relatively new (or at least relatively new to affiliate networks) and doing a lot of volume and this volume is increasing, then I take it as a good sign to jump in.
AppAnnie.com's app ranking charts are a must-check. If the graph started trending upwards relatively recently (say within the past 30 days - obviously the more recent the better) and continues to trend up or hold its top ranking, that's a sure sign that the app is converting for people.
Regarding EPC: I always take that with a grain of salt. You may notice that most apps that do huge volume will have a low EPC. This is because the more people join in the promotion, the more different types of traffic are thrown at the app, including low quality traffic that's dirt cheap (pop traffic comes to mind). This is why having a good AM that you can talk to on a regular basis is important also.
Just my 2 cents...
Amy

Of course mate. I am wrong somewhere in offer selection and hence needed better perspective from successful marketers. Thanks for your input.

Yeah. I will have to learn to look at reports correctly and learn from it. Thanks.

When figuring out what offers to run...
My advice to you would be don't be scared of competition. Hit it head on.
If you hear/see offers doing well then that is where the money is being made. I've run the same offers for over a year now. The same ones that have been paraded around in every affiliate network newsletter. If you're worried about banner blindness due to competitors buying up the same source you want to run on, then just switch up the angle.

This makes perfect sense.
I always tried to innovate winning offers that others ain't running. But that wrong most of the times. Offers would either be paused or get technical difficulties.
But I got what you just explained. Will just have to be more creative with my creatives.
Thanks a lot.
