Email ESP's (13)

Email ESP's

Currently I have a LP where I collect the users name and email. After they fill out the email, the script dumps their info into GetResponse and into a CSV also so I can import into Interspire on my own server.

Is anyone else doing this? My plan was to have GR via their API to import the user's name and email and send out an auto responder seq. for a few weeks and then I would also mail the people from my own server with diff offers too.

What I am finding is that GR says they allow single opt in, but ONLY if you use their form for signup. Since I am using the API I am having to rely on the users to double opt in to send them the auto responder seq.

I am noticing about 50% do not double opt in, even after sending them the reminder emails to double optin several times now. They sign up, they are told to confirm their email and they just do not do it. At first I thought maybe I needed to give them time, but after giving them a week and sending out the reminder ( by hand ) a couple times, they just do not do it.

Is anyone else doing this as well? If so, are you seeing 50% only double optin?

Anyone using a ESP where you are using an API to import the contacts and sending out auto responders without them having to be double optin? I know Aweber is tricky about this shit, but wondering about other ESP's as well.

Thanks!

icontact allows for this(SOI)......they have a much more robust API......can handle more traffic as well.....I had a little chat with tech at GR and there API caps you out at 2500 leads a day.....and can only handle like 1-2 request per sec.....you go over and it can time you out.....

mailchimp you can as well......but they are kinda dickish about aff stuff.......tbh if your gonna push volume get the hell away from esp's entirely......just my 2 cents but they do make life easy.....

+1 for iContact. The docs on their API leave much to be desired, but they're still leaps and bounds better than any other ESP I've worked with... not to mention they're more tolerant with complaints than most other ESPs.

Amazon SES is definitely worth a look as well... comparable deliverability, and .10 CPM FTW.

ya but try to integrate that fucker if you have a EXIM MTA which btw is the most common fucking MTA on most linux boxes it no worky.....

there is some python work around i guess but I about killed a programmer trying to get it integrated.....

you can also do the SMTP.com .....and there is critsend and sendgrid.....

when last time i did the icontact integration for my friend, I just use curl, pass the necessary info to their webform, it works except the ip shown in iContact is 127.0.0.1, they also need you to have option for the user to choose to optin or not, not allowed to be fully automatic.

so that when my self-hosted esp sends a email it sends it thru ses.....

my esp didnt support SES structure due to the fact that SES is a api.....and not a SMTP

so you have to config the server MTA to work with SES......SES last I checked doesnt integrate with EXIM

the support other MTA's but not EXIM.....

if you know a easier way please do tell.....

it also has to integrate in such a way that the feedback loops are maintained

Yeah, thats why I have interspire on my own box as well. I want the inboxing I know the ESP's can give me, but I want the spamming that my own box can give me as well.

Has anyone noticed that trying to convert a single opt in to double opt in pretty much doesn't work?

I've been sending the "reminder" email to "confirm" their subscription, but it seems like almost no one does ever confirm if they have not already. Anyone else notice this? Just wanting to check similar stats is all.

Consider a percentage use trash email addresses that they never check. The ratio varies depending on the vertical and your bait. I have seen anywhere from 5% up to 30% across different campaigns that were blatanly obvious desginated spam email addresses.

I tried to account for that as well, looking at the email they all look legit but I guess that is what it is

For those using CURL on iContact, don't you guys find it slow? I prefer iContact but I feel it might kill my conv rate..

Incent the double-opt in some way. To get blah they have to double-opt.

As far as an ESP, we find that iContact is the most lenient with complaint ratios. Also, if you have a good rep there they'll help you and not just clip you.
