My main two questions:
Should I focus more on newsfeed and mobile FB ads instead of RHS? Should I switch back to doing manual bids? (around Dec 2013/Jan2014 I started yielding better results from FB optimized bidding)
I started affiliate in August 2013 and all we would run is RHS ads. Now I feel like I rarely see affiliate ads on the RHS spots anymore. The only affiliate ads I ever really see are the fake oakley and ray bans. And I would say that is more than likely a drop shipper advertising direct.
I remember reading a post on here last year with someone predicting the larger RHS ads would increase CPC and drive lower paying ads on FB. That seems to have happened. I mainly run email submits for fashion and penny auctions, and have only had two short-lived profitable campaigns in the last year.
Case in point:
This auto insurance zip submit just came across one of my networks for US. I targeted males 22-30 with a specific angle and proper targeting (2 million people). I had a great CTR for RHS and my CPC was $.55. My CTR was .27%. I remember we used to be able to get $.12-$.20 clicks in this age group in the US with manual bids and a solid CTR (.12 or higher). I realize this is a key age demo and the ad space is larger now, but this still seems high to me.
Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks.
YEAH RHS was huge in 2013...
But it's 2015 now, so I recommend testing both. I can't say much for zip submit campaigns but for me what worked on rhs in 2013 works better in newsfeed now in 2015...
Getting 5% CTR is average on newsfeed ads paying $10-20 cents/click. You want to make sure Relevance Score is 8 or above to get lower cpc prices.
Just do a small test with a lower budget on both ad types and see for yourself whats up.
Thanks so much! I'll give the newsfeed ads a try again and pay attention to that relevance score.
