to do bulk email properly most people buy MTAs as the free ones you can run on your own server will never compete in terms of deliverability, etc.

MTA = mailing software.

How big of a list do you have and what are you trying to email?

For small lists i'd actually recommend something like Constant Contact.

For big lists/bulk email you have to get a MTA and servers. Its not cheap and if you've never done it before, not easy to learn quickly.

Hello,
If you want send emails from ur server u need make configuration of MTA ( postfix free)
And configuration spf , dkim , dmarc ...

MTA is Mail Transfer Agent like Qmail, postfix and exim which are free and powermta which is paid version.

You need both mail sending software which will be frontend to deliver email to MTA which will be backhand to deliver email out.

You can use virtualmin to install postfix and configure smtp details into any frontend mailing software.

Depending on how big your list is

<100,000 contacts: mailchimp (they guarantuee inbox delivery which will result in great open rate)
>100,000 contacts: emailvision, doctor sender, etc. There's a ton of good providers.

Mailchimp or I use aweber which I find is better than MC (I have used both).

Better not to self host and send them from your server because of canspam issues.

That doesn't make any sense, if you send from your own server doesn't mean u can't b compliant

No, but if you are 100% compliant but still get a lot of abuse emails or reports, your server ISP will ban you!

So you are saying aweber or MC won't ban you if you get lots of abuse emails or spams? lol
