Please explain POP traffic for mobile

I have search google and STM and I am still not clear as to what POP traffic is. What exactly is POP traffic? How does it work? Does it just pop automatically behind a website a user is looking at? Is this kind of traffic good for various verticals or specific ones? I have worked with banner/ click traffic but this is my first attempt at pop traffic. My AM gave me a direct APK download offer and I know most traffic sources do not approve this type of offer. I started campaign on popcash and was surprised that there isn't much to setting up a campaign. Basically name, url, budget, countries, categories, op system. As far as campaign set-up is concerned it basically boils down to categories. There are about 20-30 categories, Should I pick and choose here or leave it wide open if I am testing a campaign?

http://apkfullpro.com -> click anywhere on this page to see a pop ad
Mobile pop traffic works with many verticals - antivirus, apps, sweeps, pinsubmits
Target all categories, you want as much volume as you can get.
APK download should be ok as long as they have to click a cta on your lander to initiate the download.

go to xhamster and click anywhere and then something pops up, thats pop traffic.
sometimes if u visit certain sites on your phone, instead of seeing the site, u see some advertisement, thats redirect traffic.

usually this traffic is mentioned as "disallowed" by affiliate networks, but i still see these offers being promoted on pop very often.

the APK download can work if you have a lander before directing them to the APK, but not directly to the APK itself.

usually u might want to target wide, and then figure out how to narrow down later, unless you are selling a niche product, which means you might already have an idea of who would buy it.
