So after blowing $200 USD on facebook direct linking games for desktop and app install offers i haven't made a single conversion.
so i've decided to start testing "SMITE" which is a third person MOBA game for desktop. I feel like this is a great game for me to promote as i've been a daily MOBA player since 2005 and feel like i know my target market really well.
i've also decided that i want to run this offer using a landing page, but i am still confused about what type of landing page works with gaming offers in general, so i would love to know what kind you guys are using or have used in the past. Do you use small textual landing pages listing a few benefits and features of the game, interactive quizz type ones or "long form" advertorial style landing pages like this one
When I've run gaming I've used fairly simple landers - visuals-heavy, some benefits, decent short copy. I know other people run quiz-type ones or "choice" landers - "are you Wolverine or Professor X?". Video on the lander can convert well too.
I've never seen a long-form lander convert well for gaming, although for a long while LotRO was using a short-form lander with a whole lot of popup information behind buttons as their offer lander, so presumably that converted for them.
Language is important for gaming landers, but it sounds like you've got that covered. Try something really informal - player-to-player talk rather than advertising=speak.
In general, the only hard-and-fast rule I'd say (beyond "make sure the lander loads fast" - MOBA players aren't known for their patience, as 5 minutes in League of Legends will tell you) is that games work well with landers. Test a bunch of different ideas and see what works!
Zeno shared some great gaming landers a while ago, but it was in the middle of the thread and I can't find it. If I track 'em down I'll link them here.
Here's one of his landers, and the tutorial on how he made it: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...ith-Adobe-Muse
I asked Zeno, and he actually shared three NEW landers that he's used for gaming.

Thank you! i already started working on a Zeno style lander and it's looking pretty good. What would you recommend for video? should i embed the youtube video player? autoplay? or should i invest in a self hosted one to eliminate outgoing links? can you recommend one?
