Mobile Sweepstakes journey - hoping to take it to the next lvl

Sup Stackers,

I recently quit my job to focus on IM and thought a follow along would be a great way to hold myself accountable for the journey ahead. I have been running campaigns on and off for a year or so, started in Adult with no success then moved to mobile redirects/pops where I have had a few profitable campaigns but never scaled to $X,XXX days.

Basics
Budget: $6000-6500 for testing
Tracker: Voluum
Hosting: Dedicated Sever
Aff Networks: Mundo, Clickdealer, F5
Vetical: Sweepstakes
Traffic: mDSP/Pops/Redirects

mDSP is my primary traffic source because it has more volume, and is probably less saturated. I have ignored this source of traffic for too long as I sucked with banners when doing Adult, so assumed I would with mobile as well, just like I assumed those $0.20 apps would never be profitable /facepalm

pops/redirects will be good for initial testing of landers/offers. There is also one source I know I should be able to get profitable which can help me reach payment thresholds, boost motivation, etc. My current campaign is on this particular source and will post details in the next post

Hey! Best of luck with your ventures going fulltime What browsers have you experienced JS alerts not bringing the page to the front?

Thanks for your support.

Testing iOS and Android (while ago), I believe the only browser that did bring the page to the front was Chrome on my Galaxy S4. Which is surprising considering it is from Google.

It seems like you know what you are doing good luck.

Have you considered sound alerts and vibrate? Might boost your CTR even more.

@omrikos

I'm using vibrate at the moment, but I have never actually tested to see if it improved CTR. Has your CTR improved using vibrate or sound alerts?

Round 2: Blacklisted iOS and a few pubs, and decided to split-test the standard entry pop with a more aggressive one which included the user's city + ISP.

Alert 1 (Original)
Rev: $56.70 Cost: $70
CTR: 1.91% CR: 3.96%

Alert 2 (Aggressive)
Rev: $44.10 Cost: $70
CTR: 1.94% CR: 3%

Unfortunately the original performed better and there is a drop off from my initial test on Sunday.

Offer CVR is good as it is double the network average. CTR is really low, I checked my previous profitable campaign which was for Armor For Android and my CTR on that was 10%. Do antivirus landers tend to have higher CTR than other verticals?

Thoughts for improving campaign:
1) Use a recurring JS alert (every 30 seconds a JS alert springs up if they are not on my lander)
2) My current offer is PS4 bundle sweepstakes, I believe this was a good match for my traffic as they are a male demo, plus I have nice testimonial pics. However more generic offers like iphone and ipad have twice the EPC on network reports so will definitely split-test.
3) Make the whole page a clickable link, this doesn't make alot of sense for sweeps, might bring a net improvement though

So stackers, do you have any advice on improving CTR? Currently I'm using a few scripts (countdown, backbutton, entryalert) and my testimonials have pictures relevant to the offer :<

Definitely! It's just easier to scare people into thinking their phone may have a virus than making them believe they have won an iPhone.

damnnn that is a low ctr and cv. You really are going to need to get that up. Are those numbers consistent across pop sources and placements? are you using the more convincing FB lander? or the less convincing fb lander?

Been a while since my last update, have added in ipad 2 offer into the mix and created a popads campaign

Spent: $35
Rev: $8.20
Loss: $26.80
Lander CTR: 11.25%
Offer CR: 0.54%

My bid position was weak but I got traffic pretty fast. Considering how everyone is running sweeps, my traffic was probably saturated.
What is a good bidding strategy for PopAds?

My current position is #48 which is an estimated 354,667 impressions. ($5 CPM)
Doubling my bid puts me in position #25 with an estimated 851,795 impressions (10$ CPM)

Ran another small test on PopAds at $10 CPM (Position #28)

Spent: $30
Rev: $10.30
Loss: $19.70

This time I setup my tracking to show what clickthroughs was generated by the backbutton script and which was by the CTA button.
Backbutton: 596 Clicks 0 Conversions
CTA: 78 Clicks 5 Conversions

The clickthroughs from the backbutton skewed the CTR and CVR and would give a false representation if you couldn't differentiate:

With backbutton (Skewed)
13%CTR, 0.75% Offer CVR

Ignoring clicks by backbutton (True Representation)
1.5%CTR, 6.5% Offer CVR

I've learned that landing page mods aren't going to be a game changer and that my time will be better focused on creativity and pumping out campaigns as quickly as possible.
I'm also confused about the bidding on PopAds, the top bid is at $150 CPM, I've never seen it so high on any other pop network.

I like this follow along. I never understood pop traffic until you just put it in CPM terms. Now I get it.

Hey just saw this post again,

Regarding upping CTR - Sound + Vibrate usually helps and of course AV get higher CTR. The highest I got for pops was 25% on average

Hey awesome follow along.
What is the JS alert you are referring to?

Is this the dialog box like this one:
<script>
function loadBox() {
alert("Some text here.");
}
</script>

Thanks

sweeps are especially good if you're allowed to drive incent traffic on them or exit traffic (in other sweeps)

06-12-2015 07:29 AM #15 cbrughmans (Member)

also on the email channel this is definitely still one of the best performing types of campaigns
