TJ on weekends vs weekdays (15)

TJ on weekends vs weekdays

Having a hell of a time getting weekends profitable on TJ. My current campaigns are great during weekdays (100%+ ROIs) in tier 3 with day parting, and real tight placement selection... But same campaigns on weekends lose money.

Any ideas? Tired of seeing folks say weekends are the best for adult when I can even get a single profitable placement / day on them, but crush the weekdays.

If you are relying on day parting already, then the hours you've defined in the campaign are going to have different implications on a weekend. There could be completely different browsing habits.

More importantly though, why bother?

100% ROI on week days vs. losing money on the weekend.

The logical decision would be to only run your campaign on week days.

That IS weird! When I was doing adult, Sunday was one of my best days for TJ and other sources.

Perhaps it has to do with your particular angle or offer? Are you seeing the same trend with other angles/offers? Or just your current angle + offer combo?

At any rate - why not focus on scaling out to other sources and geos instead of trying to make weekends work? Doing so would be more value-adding IMHO.

how much volume are you pushing?

I agree with Vortex - maybe leave well enough alone if you've exhausted all angles making it profitable on the weekends. Let it run profitably and move on to another campaign.

It is possible over the weekends some other advertisers with highest bids to enable their campaigns

try to create separate campaigns with high bid and look at the results.

Hi,

Is it less profitable because of a decrease of impressions, clicks or conversions?
If you have less impressions, then yes it might be a bid issue.
Less clicks or conversions I would (as advised above) try a different angle due to a - likely - different population.
Obviously: new banners if less CTR or different LP if less conversions.
You can also try to see if there are times of day when you perform better and adjust the time targeting accordingly (like 24h a day on weekdays and limiting the time frame on week-ends).

Hope it helps

Anton

Thats a good point.

As others have said:
1) if its going well on weekdays, why bother about days its not working out?
2) Weekends and weekdays are different (duh), so the same angles/hours wont necessarily work on both.

Either try testing other angles/setup on weekends or just scale it on weekdays and find other offers for the weekend.

So... big update. Somehow my TJ weekday campaign lost its scheduling (I cloned it for weekend and was going to test but the ads never got approved). I guess when you clone a campaign it removes the scheduling from the original?

Anyway, woke up today, went to check how camps were running today so far and I saw my TJ balance was down significantly... checked stats and my campaign ran 24 hours a day on saturday and sunday. Here is a screenshot from Voluum:

Amazingly, it's actually slightly higher because somehow, my clicks were cheaper than weekdays.

One interesting thing to note - day parting hours that produced conversions were ENTIRELY different than weekdays and my best converting offer ran at 0% cvr while a direct linked campaign made all of the profits on this one. (i had them split at 70/30... imagine if i had had them at 100% direct!!)

Hi Dresden,
From what I understand it went pretty well for you.
FYI, our ads review team doesn't work on the week-end, that's why your ads didn't get approved.
Still, I'm wondering what happened to your campaign, the time target shouldn't be removed by cloning it.

It went really well. So a happy surprise. Still scratching my head as to why the scheduling got removed. All I did was clone the campaign to test a new schedule and when I looked today, it had been running all weekend without any scheduling at all.

Regarding the scheduling, thanks for spotting it, I reproduced it on a test account, it's definitely a bug!

Wow - way to go guys on solving this mystery!

I retract my "value-adding" comment - looks like the detective work has paid off in a big way!

Congrats - I learned something today!

Nice! Let me PM you my account id real quick so I can get that fat bug bounty credit

Unfortunately I can't give out free credit (yet).
We are working on a promotion management system to be able to have more frequent credit giveaways.
Of course STM will be one of the first places where we will run such a campaign, so you're sure not to miss it.

Now, back to this cloning issue, I just wanted to let you know it's fixed!

Cheers

Anton
