Display vs. Pops/How managed networks works?

Hello everyone.

First of all, I am on a low budget, I think I have $700, next month I maybe get more $200-400.
I really want to give a try, I already worked with 50onRed in the pass, so maybe this knowledge can help. My plan is to aim a low budget country with a low payout, since I live in one, I know the culture, language and etc, that definitely will help me. $0.50 payout I think $5 I can get good data, for example.

A few questions:

1) I am seeing that Adcash and PropellerAds is the bests pops networks out there, but they are managed (adcash have a self too?). How it works on a managed network? How you can optimized it? It's worth it?

2) For whom is on a low budget, you would go with Display (Decisive for example) or Pops (Adcash, ZP, etc)?

3) Do you think mobile is good way to build a list, build a funnel of sales, then try to sell products (like clickbank products)?

4) Would you think it's necessary invest on a mobile spy? I mean, Mobileadscout is $150 I think and I already have a low budget. But who know, can be worth it.

I am also almost giving a try to ZeroPark too, since is a low minimum fund ($200) and it's free with Voluum. On the other hand, Decisive have super low CPM bids.

Thank you, and sorry for a lot of questions!

Adcash has some decent traffic and you can optimize based on sites ids, handsets types, carriers etc...They don't have self serve yet.
So, all campaign set up and monetization would be manual. They require minimum $500 initial and recurring deposit.

I would recommend to start with ZP first.

Cheers...

Thanks for the quick response.

Yeah, ZP sounds like the best place for me. I also read here adcash is better for high payout offers (don't know if it is true though)

Don't worry too much about offer payout vs the traffic source, there is a large number of factors at play when it comes to viability of a product on a source.

1) I am seeing that Adcash and PropellerAds is the bests pops networks out there, but they are managed (adcash have a self too?). How it works on a managed network? How you can optimized it? It's worth it?

On your budget and when starting out you should 100% go for a self-serve network, e.g. ZeroPark, PopAds, etc.

2) For whom is on a low budget, you would go with Display (Decisive for example) or Pops (Adcash, ZP, etc)?

Either is fine. With pops you will have a slight advantage in having fewer variables to deal with, but pop traffic is generally low quality (even though mobile banner traffic can be hit and miss too) so it's easy to run things without much strategy and find that nothing works. Well, this will happen on every sources, but on pops it's quite common. Whatever source you use, make sure you get advice on reliable offers to run.

3) Do you think mobile is good way to build a list, build a funnel of sales, then try to sell products (like clickbank products)?

On your budget I would not go down this path yet. Building a list + funnel > higher priced products is going to take more time/effort/testing/money, and I think your attention is better focused on a simple campaign first. Thinking about this kind of thing is great, just be wise with where your time/money is first spent - better to spend $500 and make $100 on a very simple campaign that anyone could do than to try to set up something complex, spend $500, make $1 and have too little data to prove anything useful.

4) Would you think it's necessary invest on a mobile spy? I mean, Mobileadscout is $150 I think and I already have a low budget. But who know, can be worth it.

No, it's not necessary. Spying for inspiration/research is very useful if you're new to this. That being said, it's trivial to emulate a mobile device/user-agent, and most people have smartphones, and a VPN service is $10/month and useful for many things; thus you can spy yourself with a little planning and no need for a spying platform. These make it more convenient but you should closely guard your funds given your current budget.

Hi Zeno, regarding this one... how do you know what sites have pop traffic say from adcash? Or do you go all the top sites in alexa with this approach and get some rough ideas? Any tips? Thanks.

I want to know this one too. For strange that can be, I never saw a pop while I search on web at my iphone.

If you want to see pops, just turn off all ad blockers and similar (hint: use a sandboxed browser client too or private browsing modes) and go hit up adult sites. That's the fastest way for sure. Or crappy warez/filesharing sites.

Hey Hieu, dumb question but how would you see the actual placements/sites you are buying? Isn't this hidden by ZP?

I don't know, maybe their bug or something. You just create a new target pop campaign, then you can see the list as my image.

If you do a RON campaign they just give you these codes, not URLs. Is there a way to match URl to the codes?

I never saw any website url on ZP too.

I've seen other mention this but for me all the sites are always hidden, no idea how you can see the site names ...

This is from ages ago.. but some of these might still pop ZP ads.. just use VPN and browser switcher..
Copy and paste into text file, and save as pops.html

You can also do a search in Google using the below.. These will bring up other parked domains that often have pops (not just ZP ).. a lot of the results won't, so you'll need to sort through them.

site:whois.domaintools.com "ns1.parkingcrew.com"
site:whois.domaintools.com "ns1.bodis.com"

It's not a bug. They show the websites on PPV traffic when you check the targets or when you create a target campaign.
