These kinds of things e.g. the WeAreSocial reports, "State of the Net" whitepapers and so are on are great.

They won't give you practical advice. But what they will do is enhance your general overview of internet technology/advertising across the globe.

This knowledge can have a massive influence on your decisions for the future, e.g. what markets to focus on -- and why.

CMDeal -
In my role as Forum wet blanket, how long do you think a lot of these businesses highlighted in this year's report [through page 88 about] will last once interest rates go up and VC funding comes down?
To me it seemed like one giant ad for YCombinator [which may just be a reflection on how successful they are].

There is no question that the value of pretty much every asset in the world -- not just tech businesses -- is inflated due to the almost unprecendented low interest rate environment we are seeing today.

I guess all I can say is that if you have a tech business that does not have much profits but can attract a high valuation, this is probably not a bad time to start having some discussions with some potential acquirors.

It's always better to strike when the iron is hot, and it's always better to be lucky than smart.

Most ordinary people don't realise it, but we are living in a very unique time in modern economic history.

Yup. Get your opportunities in place and be ready to pounce, when those rates start to climb again.
