Hi STM community,
New to the community and to this industry and just had a quick question as I'm starting to create my first campaign. Is a landing page needed for a mobile application install for example say "battery" extender which is currently hot as of now. Wouldn't my banners just redirect them to the application store. Thanks again guys
Hey greenskies,

^ That explains it pretty well imo.
You don't need it to start the campaign, and the campaign might work but chances are much lower.
I will let some pros explain better, I am a newbie myself
Manu.
Whether or not a landing page is needed will depend on several factors.
The main consideration is how much effort is required from the visitor for the offer to convert. For a free app download, you can often get away with direct-linking from banner to playstore/appstore, because the app is free and it takes almost no effort to download. And for utility apps the size is small enough that people often won't care about bandwidth (although this would depend on the particular geo). A lander introduces an extra step, and also takes time to load, so it provides the visitor with another chance to bail. So for people that are not good at making landers, it may be better to focus on testing and optimizing banners. However, a great lander can make a big difference to conversion rates. It really depends on where your strengths are, and which battles you want to choose.
However, for offers that require more effort from the visitor - having to enter credit card information, make a payment, fill out a form etc. - a landing page is often required. A good approach to optimizing landing pages, is to spy a lot, pick landers that are completely different in design and test them to find out which type(s) works best, then make different versions of that to split-test and optimize further.
That link manusit posted above is a great introduction! I love caurmen's tutorials - he has a knack for making complicated concepts simple to understand.
Hope I was able to make things a bit clearer!
