How do you guys track costs? Just realized RTBs don't offer cost data tokens

Hi everyone,

Voluum had just updated their platform to allow manual cost updates on the CAMPAIGN level.

Just wondering, as most folks here have been using Voluum for some time. How did you guys track your actual CPC/CPM costs on the AD level before the manual cost updates were live?

Did you manually download the cost figures from your traffic sources and stitch them together with exported data from your Voluum accounts to arrive at your EPC/CPC figures?

I had the impression that it's just Facebook which doesn't pass any CPC/CPM data to 3rd party trackers. Looks like all DSPs don't offer that capability too.

Please advise.

I'm afraid that most people use a technology I like to refer to as a BAS - Big-Ass Spreadsheet.

It's a pain in the arse and there are a variety of ways to semi-automate it, but there's no better way to go about things for most traffic sources.

Some very specific traffic sources - POF, for example - have tracking solutions available which integrate cost tracking, and they're incredibly useful. And obviously with some sources like Decisive you can do a lot of your tracking and optimisation in the traffic source interface.

But for everything else, it's Excel time.

Sorry!

Yeah I have been using Excel since I started using Voluum last week. Previously on CPVLabs I could upload my cost figures via spreadsheet downloaded from Facebook.

Guess I'm thinking of too fanciful stuff for what trackers can do LOL, thought it was just old CPVLabs not being able to pick up cost data. Turns out it's the traffic sources which doesn't give them.

Thanks!

On DSPs the most convenient way is to use their pixel.

This way you can see conversions to a granular level like ad / carrier / placement etc.
