It seems like everyone suggests ripping landers and angles. But I'm interested in what successful mobile affiliates have to say about this question:
Do most of your profits come from angles & landers that are modelled on what's already working, or do most come from original and unique angles & landers?
If you're willing to go there, it'd be interesting to hear what percentage of your profits come from ripped ideas versus unique campaigns.
Thanks, guys.
I am not a super affiliate myself, but I have read and talked to a few. The general consensus I've seen is that you will probably not be quite as successful ripping landers and angles as you could be if you decide to go out and make them on your own.
Finch (one of the STM heads) says that as long as you are ripping other people's work, you are 5 steps behind the competition. He is not the only one I've seen who holds this view.
The best way to go about the matter is to rip creatives in the beggining of AM. If you don't like stealing other people's work, at least spend a good amount of time studying the creatives in your chosen industry. The important thing to take away this is to see what does and doesn't work.
After you have had experience and collected enough data, you should then consider going out and start creating your own landers.
There are always two sides to every coin though, and I'm sure that there are some big-timers here who would be willing to give their own opinion on the matter. Just thought I would tell you what I've learned and read so far.
yeah, i would say a healthy dose of both is the a good plan. Rip then optimize. or you can mix and match. take a winning traffic source from one spied campaign, a lander from another and an offer from a third. get 9 or so variables in there. and then just test for winning combination.
I'm sure that a true innovator can see above market ROIs. But chances are you will fail 99 times out of 100 to get that super camp.
I wouldn't advise new people to start with that strategy.
The best points have already been made in the posts above.
I'd just like to add that in the beginning, when you have little to no idea on how to make a lander for that particular vertical, it may make more sense to rip completely different lander types and test them to see which type converts the best, and then come up with different versions of the best to make it even better!
After doing this for a while, you WILL come up with more original and innovative ideas. This is how the mind works - after you've been focusing on something for a while, you get the energy flowing and ideas will start coming to you.
So in short, my advice would be to rip and test and optimize, and add originality and innovation as it comes to you.
Thanks for the perfect question!
Amy
Thanks for the great advice. I have gotten started with ripping landers and building campaigns similar to how hlyghst suggests.
It's interesting to hear what Finch said. Yesterday I heard in the forum that many successful affiliates spend their time scaling rather than making the perfect landing page. They get a lander that works, and then they focus their time on scaling. But I can see how at the highest level being creative may be necessary.
I'd still be interested to hear from anyone's first hand experience on this specific question, as I have not found it in the forum:
What amount of your profits come from original vs. ripped angles/landers?
Rip a campaign u see everywhere and then try and do some split tests on the lander for further improve cr. Always test the things that render the biggest potential impact on roi.
For example test diff images on lander in a dating campaign.
We learn by mimicking.
You learn to speak English or whatever language by copying your parents.
But once you reach a certain age you start crafting your own eloquent sentences.
The same rings true for most processes and skills, affiliate marketing included.
