Hey everyone,
What happens if you run the same offer on different traffic sources that also share inventory? Do you end up competing with yourself?
I tried to search the forum for this answer but no luck finding it.
Thanks,
Manu.
That's a really good question, and unfortunately it'd be very hard to tell the answer.
The best way to find out would be to target a very specific group on both traffic sources, and test to see whether there were competition effects between the two campaigns.
My guess on the overall question is "yes", if you're targeting an unusual niche. Otherwise, you'll be competing against yourself but also against hundreds of other people, so the effect will be very muted.
However, I don't know for sure - anyone?
You can. It depends on the traffic sources.
ZeroPark competes with other traffic networks buying traffic on various traffic exchanges.
It's exceedingly rare that you will compete against yourself on a broad level, but when you niche down to independent websites, you'll sometimes find that you're the only person actively targeting the website. The volumes are so low that it's not going to impact your bottom line, unless you're running 3,000-4,000 campaigns with the vast majority of them targeting individual website IDs.
Thanks for the answers guys. Basically not something too likely to happen and should not worry about it.
yeah, i've asked myself this question alot too. With mDSPs, in theory you would be bidding on the same traffic. but in reality that is not always the case. the same placement can perform very differently on different mDsps.
Though usually you wouldnt want to run the exact same camp on the same placement on 2 separate mdsps at the same time. though that too can sometimes work.
best to test and see if it hurts your camp.
