Hey, I am promoting a fairly new app. I have a few friends who have android, I thought I would give them the tracking url and to see if they can trigger a conversion. They typed the url.
Out of 4 friends, only one trigger went through. I am a little confused, I asked my AM and he says he doesn't know and they should go through. But I can't figure out why.
Anyone went through this? I am a little worried that I won't get paid for the conversions...
Is it possible that if you don't have your android automatically redirect to google play store that those conversion won't go through?
Any suggestions or help as to why this is happening?
Are you sure all your friends devices are acceptable (operating system, carrier, geo, device...)?
All app installs trigger conversion on application open. If your friends just installed the app they cant be credited. Its technically impossible to do so.
Or maybe the app itself is not available for your friends handsets. This is not uncommon and is not limited to affiliate pushed apps. For example Nokia Here - arguably the best offline navigation app for android is not available on certain LG handsets, while it has wide Samsung coverage.
Hm no idea then.. AM said offer is good ? It has volume and affs pushing it ?
If so I would not concern myself with it.. If not.. then why push untested offer at all ?
You did saw one conversion so its not like the offer doesnt convert at all.
Ask your AM if anyone else complain about it, ask him to do a test himself and see if it triggers a conversion, ask him if other affiliates are running it and if there are conversions on this offer (not conversions from some time ago but from the past few days - today preferably).
Also, some CPI offers dont only require you to open the app, some even requires you to reach a certain level (if its a game) or something in order to fire the pixel.
With android emulators the tricky bit is getting Google Play to act nice. I had problems with Genymotion, so now I use
VPN (for geo specific offers) + BlueStacks + a bunch of misc google play accounts that I registered under different gmail addresses. Your install is tied to the account, so you need a few if anything goes wrong.
And to keep my karma balanced, I do tell my AM which conversions are mine, so they can scrub them if they wish.
I do conversion testing at the very end of the offer set up process. So,
1) Set up tracking for the offer to see that I am taken to the offer page through the traffic
2) Check that the tracker is picking up clicks
3) Test conversion
I'm 100% behind testing your CPI offers by yourself - it takes less than 2 minutes when you nail the process down, you are sure that your tracking is set up right and it gives you peace of mind that your offer actually pays out. I wouldn't take anything that you can't test for yourself on blind trust.
PS always double check your VPN location with a third party location site. One of the bigger VPNs that I tried kept dropping me into Arizona when I wanted to go to Brazil
hah, good point on the game CPI firing after certain levels, never occurred to me
