A lot of that stuff is pop-culture, and doesn't really dig into the important parts of business I think.

That's my experience from reading them when I started 2.5 years ago to now when I would always go for a book on economics, business, psychology, advertising, sales, etc. Those have much more info about how to build a business.

Here's a reading list off the top of my head:

Zero To One: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...%3Azero+to+one
The Personal MBA: http://www.amazon.com/Personal-MBA-M...e+Personal+MBA
Delivering Happiness: http://www.amazon.com/Delivering-Hap...ring+happiness
The Start-Up of You: http://www.amazon.com/Start-up-You-F...startup+of+you
Thinking, Fast and Slow: http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-Fast-...+fast+and+slow
The Effective Executive: http://www.amazon.com/Effective-Exec...tive+executive

Don't get stuck into reading, just launch You learn so much more from experience. As long as you have an analytical approach and you can self-reflect, doing helps you much more than reading.

If you are a first time entrepreneur, signing up for a lean startup workshop is probably a really wise investment. They are quite inexpensive if you buy in advance and you will learn to avoid many of the mistakes first time entrepreneurs make.
