"Press Me!" - Buttons that Lie

Did you know that buttons on pedestrian crossings don't get you to green any quicker then just waiting?
They are "placebo buttons" and they exist not just on crossings, but for example also in office heating:
From a company point of view, the temperature is best kept stable. However, suggesting to employees that they have had an impact on turning the heat down or up keeps them happy.
This article was published a few weeks ago but is a great read about how "fake buttons" give users "the illusion of control"
Very relevant for marketing

Survey & rules landers are great examples of how this works in marketing.
As a bonus, with the recent news of FTC / FB lawsuits, the following quote from the article is also very relevant to us affiliates. Just read "affiliate" instead of "bank"
Most (affiliates) have a very strong understanding of the relationship between risk and return. So if you find yourself making a very high return in a market, the obvious question is, ‘if we’re making unusually high levels of return what are the risks we’re taking?’
. The huge returns and the "illusion of control" are causing affiliates to not always consider the huge risks they are personally running.
