Make it BIG in the App Install Game (Clash of Kings) (27)

Make it BIG in the App Install Game (Clash of Kings)

There’s a lot of confusion on how to run an app install offer on Facebook.

As an affiliate, there are two distinct ways of running an app install offer on Facebook. Let's call them

(1) Clean Version (no affiliate link)
(2) Dirty Version (workaround)

In this post, I'll focus only on approach (2). The approach (1) is for affiliates with high budgets. i.e. there’s no affiliate link and conversions are tracked directly with the affiliate network (like Mobvista.com).

Let's get started!

Network: Brusmedia
Offer: Clash of Kings (app install)
Payout: $2.25 CPA

Before you can go to Facebook’s Ads Platform make sure you set up a tracking link, which redirects to a page that is relevant to your ad and offer. In this case I’ve picked a random forum about Clash of Kings like this:

http://www.androidrundown.com/app-ru...omment-page-2/

In your tracking tool you should be able to set up a simple redirect rule which can be changed easily after your ads are approved by FB.

You’re advised to set up a Facebook Page related to your offer and ad so you can create post ads. Fan page names such as “Top Apps,” “Latest Apps,” …

Now go to your Facebook Ads Account and download Power Editor (Note: you need to be using Google Chrome to access the Power Editor).

Click on the Plus sign within the Ads Column and create a new Ad, Ad Set and Campaign.

In “Campaigns” OBJECTIVE should be “Website Clicks”.

In “Ad Sets” OPTIMIZE FOR “Clicks” and set a bid of $1.00 (the FBQueen recommends 3x more as the suggested bid.)

Also make sure you only select Mobile News Feed as place for your ads on Android phones. (Optional: If your tracker allows you to track phone types you may install a postback tracking pixel in the CPA Network but you need to ask your Affiliate Manager to help you with that. You may find out which phone types convert the best and you can optimize on your campaign for maximum ROI).

In order to see what app installs work, I spy on copies, images, demographic targeting ...

...and come up with some newsfeed mobile ads (those are just samples):

Pull the tracking link you have and place it to the “Website URL” field. Then fill out the “Display URL” field with Google Play Store’s link That’s only possible in the Power Editor! Doesn’t it look sweet?

Add an image which you can either get from the network or you can get a graphic designer create one for you or you can just download images from google. Here you can go creative and you are advised to test multiple images to maximize your CTR (click-thru-rate).

If you like my images, you can download them here:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m2cog696m...P3gnCqK_a?dl=0

FINAL STEP
Once you’re done, duplicate your ad 2x so in total you should have 3 ads, 1 ad set and 1 campaign for upload. Go ahead and click on “Upload Changes”.

Okay, so if you may be wonder how Google Play Store or the App Owner will see who sent that download, just look at the affiliate link you pulled from the CPA Network. It should have “affid=xxxxx” or “a=xxxxx” in it which is your own identification code and once someone clicks on your ad, your tracking tool will redirect to this link which will take the visitor to the Google Play Store.

Important: Once you have your ads APPROVED/ACTIVE change the link in your tracker so your ads are DIRECT-LINKING to the app.

Franco thank you very much for the guides, just signed up yesterday to your spy tool and I really like the easy user interface. Also it's the first spy tool that I found that works specifically for app installs. I thought this tool was only for Facebook but I see also in app banners and display ads.

One thing I would add will be to let us sort the ads we see by CTR so we can quickly sort the high performing ads on the top.

Other than that, really great tool and for the price you offering it compared to other spy tools in the market it's a nice gem.

Keep up the good work.

franco can you tell us more about clean version? i mean other networks that we can use except mobvista.com ?

So your Tracking URL points to ''http://www.androidrundown.com/app-ru...omment-page-2/'' - that's just for approval. Yous witch it to a direct link after approval ?

You don't have any approval issues with using a display URL pointing to Google Play and the tracking URL pointing somewhere else ?

There is no bait & switch. This is where you submit something compliant and swap to something non-compliant. That’s not what you do here, you just usually use a lander initially and then swap to direct-linking for various reasons. At no point is the ultimate destination different, so it’s not a non-compliant process.

Do you still have to worry about getting your account banned using this method, or is this generally safe?

Great guide Franco, thank you!

Hey Franco, how does you CTR algo match up against the actual CTR of the ad on FB?

11-21-2015 07:15 AM #14 mr_smiley (Member)

How do you switch the link at all?

Everytime I do a FB ad I have to wait for approval, and then if I change ANYTHING after approval I have to wait for approval again (pending review) ?

@mr_smiley, see what he says "in your tracking tool you should be able to set up a simple redirect rule which can be changed easily after your ads are approved by FB.". You are not replacing website url in your ads but you are simply switching your destination link/offer link in your tracker (Voluum, cpvlab, prosper202, Thrive).

Great info, thanks!
Can you shed some light on that part "tracked directly with the affiliate network (like Mobvista.com)."
How does that work? You don't need a tracking url?

What happens if the random forum link goes down e.g. http://www.androidrundown.com/app-ru...omment-page-2/, will this affect your ad?

12-04-2015 11:53 PM #18 lolzap (Member)

After you switch the link no more traffic will be sent to the forum so it doesn't matter if it goes down.

Excellent Guide here Franco. We've had some strong performance with the Clash of Kings Installs so far

Great article franco12. Just a couple of queries. Not sure if they are stupid enough, as I am just starting out .

Is the androidrundown blog something which you own? If not, where are you setting up the tracking, and deciding that it should be redirected to the LP or Offer Affiliate URL ?

Is this something which can be done using Prosper202 as well?

12-30-2015 05:43 AM #21 zeno (Administrator)

The site you mentioned will be his or random - its only purpose is to act as a bridge during automated link checking and approvals.

Afterward one would change the path in their tracking system to point to the offer, i.e. an affiliate link that redirects to the offer.

You can do that in any tracking system.

hello
You can use also cloaker to show facebook reviewers proper site and after approval change it to Your offer .But i think its not to have be cloaked so redirect in tracker shoud be enough .

instead of making a new thread I figured I will ask here. can someone explain all these terms? what is this "KPI" and are will the network still pay me if users above lvl4 decide not to buy more in game items?

**New KPI Payment for iOS US Only **

User Level above 4: Adv will pay $13.50 per installs
User Level lower than 4: Adv will not pay

**Please inform your publishers**

**Effective Time**
20151126 17:00 GMT+1

KPI and restrictions:
No adult, no fraud traffic
KPI: 2nd day retention above 30%
Advertiser should not be required to pay full prices for subpublishers which provide 2nd day retention below 20%, the agreed price for this traffic is $0.1 per install.

If there's any discrepancy, Adjust statistics should be the final number.

12-31-2015 01:30 AM #24 zeno (Administrator)

Google is your friend.

These terms mean that if your users are not retained long enough, and play enough to go above lvl 4, then yes you get nothing.

Basically, the lead/conversion point is now lvl 4 and the payout is $13.50.

If you can send quality, interested traffic then this could do very well. If you send average/junk traffic or create a situation where the game experience they get is below their expectations, then you will see little return.

It's getting tougher all the time

This method works today? Facebook will not send to the ban because of this method?

01-22-2016 06:33 AM #27 vinku (Member)

is it safe to run on ads on facebook now? hope this will not lead to account ban...
