An interesting offer just fell into my lap. I have a friend who set me up with another friend who owns and operates a beef jerky company. The jerky co. is looking for ways to expand and expose their brand and thinks that affiliate marketing is a viable option. I've never worked directly with an advertiser before. This company has not worked with affiliates before.
My initial thoughts is to see what he's willing to pay for. Emails, site visits, facebook likes, sales. My second thought is that facebook would probably be a good traffic source for this kind of offer. I'm also thinking that I should try to get exclusive on this and see what I can do with it. Since it's not going to go through an affiliate network are there any sort of protections I should look into? Are there any contract/agreement templates out there? Also how would I go about setting up tracking for this?
Anyone out there that has done something like this? Anything else I should think about or talking points for discussion?
Ideally, you should try to get paid as much upfront as possible. Most will say no way, but it never hurts to ask or use it as a negotiating point.
