Decisive: Has anyone had traffic from countries they did not target?

Hi,

Has anybody had traffic on Decisive from countries they did not target? I'm running a HK only offer at the minute and all of my campaigns in Decisive are set to HK only. All of the reports in Decisive say that it's 100% HK traffic so far but for some reason my AM says there are 40% US clicks showing up on their system!

Obviously if that's true, it's quite a lot of money/time down the drain. I got in touch with Decisive but they confirmed all of the traffic was HK.

Has anybody else had a similar problem before?

Thanks

Yep. Not much you can do except set geo rules in your tracking software to take them to another offer.

40% error seems a lot.

Could that be traffic from spy bots?

Yes, all the time. Their geo targeting is really BAD. I don't know what database they are using but its not very good.

If you cut some crap placements it tends to get better (probably a lot of bots)

If you target USA its usually much better

I'm currently using Decisive as my tracker. I'll look in to setting up Voluum or something similar.

I'll try blacklisting a few things sometime soon but without setting up my own tracking, I can't actually see the US traffic! I only heard about it from my AM. I'd not used a tracker as I was following the appetiser guide but I will give it a shot. Looking forward to learn another new thing

Yeah - the other day on another source I was getting about half US traffic, half India + Indonesia traffic.
It was because I was bidding so low that I was only getting the crappy remnants of traffic. When I boosted the bid it went to about 98% US traffic.

As Stitch said - redirect them in your tracker so they don’t go to waste.

I will try boosting the bid and see where I get. I've currently got smart bidding set up on Decisive.

Thanks for your tips

I've the same problem too. I realised the problem is more apparent when I target iOS (lots of US clicks when US isn't even targeted). When I change to target only Android, the issue is almost resolved (less US clicks.. but still some coming through). I was targeting Singapore traffic back then so I'm not sure if this iOS issue still stands for other geos.

I'm finding it amazing how many people are having similar problems!

I am currently targeting Android only as it is an Android app that I am promoting.

Hi Laurence,

We use Maxmind for our Geo-ip database. Please do let us know if you are seeing problems with the ips so we can report it back to them.

That being said, we check LPs for all active campaigns using targeted and untargeted geos to confirm the landers are the same. So if you send our checks to a new offer which does not adhere to our guidelines or does not correspond with the original creatives then we reject the campaign.

@ Andrea - if you use Maxmind then you should easily see the discrepancies with geo targeting. Most of the trackers use maxmind as well - seeing a discrepancy between Decisive using Maxmind and a tracker using Maxmind ?

Hi Deondup,

I'd be happy to take a look at it.

Please just send the ips with the location from Decisive and the location from the tracker. Preferably in excel form and I will dig into it for you.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for for your response! I have paused the campaign I was having problems on anyway but I will let you know if I see further issues. I'm waiting for approval on a different Geo at the minute anyway. If there are any future problems I'll send the info over to you. Thanks
