How some websites are able to hide the referrer data(sites) for themselves, for example "istartsurf.com" have traffic in millions but no referrer data.

Probably something to do with toolbar/extension based traffic.
Possibly using an iframe, or domain masking at the DNS level so that the traffic is ascribed to a different domain?
