Looking for some advice and thoughts on the online background check industry. I know absolutely nothing about it... and this would be like a direct affiliate relationship "plus" (i.e. I'd be doing much more than running leads and would have to help build the lead gen infrastructure).
Long story short, I know this guy who has a $10million a year b2b background check business (they service small to medium sized businesses). He's looking for help to branch out into b2c. He already has contracts with Experian, etc. for all the background data you could ever hope for and infrastructure to aggregate the date sinca he's already doing it for b2b. He does zero online marketing for his current biz and gets all clients via his "pound the phone" sales team.
Do you guys think b2c is overly saturated and had its day (instantcheckmate, idtrue, etc.)? I realize the industry was super hot with affiliates a few years ago and not quite sure how "defensible" a business like this is...
The idea would be to target more niche background check "applications" like:
- people looking to hire others (like nannies, maids, contractors, handymen)
- renters
- job hunters
....thinking about it, probably an excerice in angle creation...
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
Would you pursue?
Three components
1) Acquiring leads
2) Creating customers
3) Increase customer value.
I would focus on building a platform for developers to sell white label versions of your product.
Very interesting idea thanks. I proposed being the "Intel inside" concept. Their initial response was potential liability. I agree with you that it's a good idea and i'm sure the legality of it could be worked out.
Have any thoughts on saturation?
As you may recall,
Blackberry once 'saturated' the smartphone market...
And then Apple came along.
I wouldn't worry about a market being too saturated. I would be more concerned if there is genuinely no competition...
No competition more often means it doesn't work instead of being the pioneer.
