Tackling India

Hi Stackers

I'm getting stumped with India and was wondering if anyone could give any pointers on tackling India on Mobile?

India has many languages so is there anyway to run a campaign for all the 4 major ones at the same time?

Any help would be appreciated!

Its English on advertising online. Everyone learn english in School, they who using internet and smartphone defentily can basic english. I have not heard anyone using Hindi on banners. I might be wrong thought..but all affiliate programs i promoting , even Indian ones like Vcommission says English is just fine

English is being official language in India as the last ruler in India was British. Indians follow British English. Also, Hindi is also official.

Split test between both, But better is English!

Thanks Johan but I'm actually looking for a way, method or technique on advertising to the different languages in India instead of assuming that they all know and speak English...

Asume ? Its just what it is , most of people can english if they use a smartphone and a computer. I dont get the point why you need it . You going to go on tribal level ?

India has 122 major languages and 1599 other languages, local language only used in Music, films. All the shops and offline ads are in English or Hindi.

No just for the 4 major ones. But anyways I'm looking for a way to get to Indian users other than English by being able to focus on more than just one language at a time...

Other language will have considerably high CTR but lesser CR. But you should test always.

Hindi: Northern India
Native Language: Southern India
English: All over India as secondary (major) and native (minor).
Some of the states in India are weak in English like center India.

Not quite sure what you mean by "target 4 languages at the same time". Different parts of India use different local languages, and English serves as the common language in tier 1 cities, as you move away from tier 1 cities into tier 2 and tier 3 cities and rural areas, the local languages become much more prevalent.

For example, some traffic sources allow you to target India but not specific cities or areas where English is not commonly spoken.

Is there anyway (besides putting 2-3 different languages on the LP itself) where our campaign can cater to indians who speak other languages?

You can language target on facebook and use 4 different landing pages. I'm about to enter the Indian market and plan on just using english though.

Just a thought, How about a landing page that prompts users to pick their prefered language first.

Browser language detection?

Some browsers support the major ones.

Why don't you just target by language spoken or city?

I was going to suggest the same thing. You can get the users language preference from their browser settings. This will also give you some insight into what percentage of users have their browser set to another language besides English.

Targeting by language preference in browser settings is a good idea
