My Progress Report - baggins

Hey guys!

Thought I'd get more involved here on the forum and start one of these. Had a great time at STM London and met many very nice people and loved the community vibe that STM has. Took me a few days to recover from that experience haha!

A little about me

- I am quite fresh to affiliate marketing, started at the end of January this year.
- I took part in the 6WAMC which basically started very close to when I started my AM career which was ideal. It built some very strong foundations for me at the start.
- Learnt a huge amount from that course, I am very blessed for it to come around at the perfect time.
- Since then I have had successful campaigns that have made profit.
- I am doing AM full-time.

More specific to AM

- I run 100% mobile offers and have been doing app installs bar one offer.
- I am using the traffic source go2mobi although I do have funds elsewhere but at the moment I am enjoying sticking to one quality platform and learning the ropes.
- I have created a mastermind group, which has helped my progress a lot.

Some of the things I have learnt in my short time

- Launch as quickly as you can and don't get hung up about trying to make things perfect. This is especially true in the volatile world of app installs.
- Although the course I took taught me a lot, there still is no substitute for what you learn out in the wild....apply yourself and get really stuck in.
- The offer is one of the most important aspects and its hard to find a top notch offer.

So as of today, I currently have one campaign running on an offer which is making profit daily. However the numbers are very low - spending about 40 a day and making 10-20. I have tried a lot with the offer to improve my margin but has been very hard to squeeze my winners out. At the backend I am optimizing frequently but there is only so much you can optimise to. This offer is actually for the iOS and was the first time I had tried this. It is also in Indonesia where the volume isn't huge so scale here does not seem plausible.

Scaling is certainly one of my weaker areas as I have no had much experience with it. Aside from this campaign I have launched 9 new campaigns over yesterday eve/this morning. They are from 2 offers but I have made multiple campaigns by targeting different geos and different exchanges. This is a different approach to what I have been using as before I would pick an offer and geo and then the cheapest exchange and go from there.

Thoughts so far

I feel I have made good progress over the last 3 months and have to give a big shout out to some of the people that made it possible - Zeno and everyone else who contributed to the 6WAMC and my mastermind members - Denisoi and monobrow. For now I am sticking to the 80/20 rule and concentrating on what is most important first. I am launching as much as possible and learning as much as I can at the same time away from the stats. I am just happy that I have the capability to find an offer and get it into profit all by myself. Goal over the rest of this month is to actually hit $xxx/day, at the moment I have come somewhat close but not yet achieved it.

Thanks for reading, all advice very welcome and hope someone got something out of it too

Thanks. Loved your speech at STM London by the way, one of my highlights.

Update

Since last posting my profitable campaign died out and I haven't managed to find anything else promising enough. I have launched a lot but to no avail. I seem to be consistently launching offers recommend by AMs which are doing very well. In the end I run them at -95% ROI.

The offers I have done well with have either not been on top offers list, or are newish to the market.

One thing I am working on at the moment is my copy skills. I think my angles must be the issue with the campaigns I launch that are doing really well. Here is an example of some banners I launched for an offer called EasyTouch that failed miserably - http://screencast.com/t/bsjhOYsn

The porn one wasn't accepted on my traffic source. I actually thought the angles were alright, the CTRs were lowish 0.60% - 1.30% in the 4 geos I launched it in. Perhaps there is too much text, but it is hard to get an angle across in less than 5 words.

Great progress baggins! I'll be keeping an eye on this follow along and will try to comment when I think I can add some value.

I'd love to see you launch an offer from scratch- hope to see that coming up soon!
