(Guide) Promoting Mobile Offers With PPV

There are 3 types of Mobile offers to promote:
1. IQ Quizzes (ie: How smart are you?)
2. Niche Quizzes (ie: How much do you know about MMA)
3. Ringtones (ie: Get free Eminem ringtones)

With some niches it's very clear whether you should use a landing page or not. With Mobile & PPV, you always want to split test both a landing page and direct linking.

From experience running TONS of volume to mobile via PPV i can say that I've had some campaigns do way better with a landing page, and others do better direct linking.

Campaign & Landing page ideas + Targets
Like i mentioned above make sure you split test a landing page and direct linking, but below i'm going to discuss campaign and landing page ideas.

Offer: IQ Quizzes (ie: How smart are you?)
---------------------------------------------------------
Are you smart enough to be the US president?
Find out now!

---------------------------------------------------------
*With this example, you could make a landing page around Barack Obama, and get people to take the IQ quiz to see if they're smart enough to be the president.

Targets:
- Barack Obama, previous presidents such as george bush, white house, gov sites, etc…
- or you could just target general male sites too: Torrent sites, video game sites, etc..
Both types of targets would be worth testing! Just make sure your tracking to know which URLs are converting

or

Offer: Niche Quizzes (ie: How much do you know about MMA)
---------------------------------------------------------
Would you win a fight against Brock Lesnar?
I bet you could!

---------------------------------------------------------
*This is the same idea as #1. Here your enticing MMA fans with a weird title which should get intrigue as long as your targeting the right people.

Targets:
- Brock lesnar, UFC, mma, sherdog, joe rogan, jiu jitsu, 1000 other popular MMA fighters etc…

The theory behind the landing page
The point of these landing pages is that they're more exciting than the offers landing page, and they're still directly related to the offer. This should increase the interest to the offer you are promoting, ie: increase your CTR.

Landing page design
1. Keep it simple
2. Headline and Call to action are most important
3. Make sure it loads fast! (small filzesize)

Landing page format
You can rotate all these components around to see what performs best for you.

Remember the goal is to get a high click through rate from your landing page to your offer. This is how you make the most money! You can't just tell people "Take this IQ test to see how smart you are". Your CTR will be terrible! You have to make something interesting and intriguing which is what i did with the 2 examples above.

What CTR do you generally aim for on mobile with landing pages?

01-20-2011 07:13 AM #5 stackman (Administrator)

pro2011:
awesome! glad i helped.
Let me know if you have any questions along the way, i'd like to help you get a profitable mobile campaign up. Just post questions here

Gaking:
PPC manager? what exactly do you mean?

jroes57:
It's really different per campaign. I know you want a number so I'll throw out 0.15 - 0.3% CTR.
If you have less than 0.15 CTR, the campaign won't be worth your time. If you have 0.2% CTR or >, then you're on the right path and 'should' be profiting!

0.2% CTR on your pop? Isn't that way to less? I am using dating landers with 10-20% CTR to the offer, just wondering if you meant these CTR on facebook?

01-20-2011 12:13 PM #7 gallox (Member)

because of the higher payout on mobile offers you can get away with a lower CTR. ie a 1.7% ctr and 1 in 5 click to conversion you would get to 100% ROI.

So far I'm at 1-2% ctr with 600 views and 10 clicks 0 leads. Should I refine my targeting list?

01-20-2011 12:28 PM #9 gallox (Member)

How many different targets? and whats your cost per view?

Ah damn I see, time to go back and learn some math, lol.

100 and .01 cents. So do I test each URL to ten times the payout?

if the payout is around $10 it would mean your are spending $10.000 for testing..are you serious? i would spend around $6 on each target..depending on the payout

01-20-2011 02:18 PM #13 jroes57 (Member)

Not all Urls are high traffic ones so spending 10k would be a not likely scenario. So I'll go to six per URL. Thanks

01-20-2011 04:02 PM #14 stackman (Administrator)

My mistake, i definitely meant 0.15 - 0.3% CTR on FACEBOOK.
For mobile landing pages I'd like to see at least 40% click through to the offer.

Something important i'd like to add on is that you can't call the campaign a flop if you spend $20 or $30 and have 0 leads!
Your payout is likely around $10 on these offers, and you probably have 1000's of target URLs. So if you spend $30 over 1000 URLs with no leads that means nothing. You have to spend close to $10 for EACH URL you have to determine whether that URL is worth keeping. Sometimes i spend $20 for big URLs that i feel might work out.

Assuming you don't want to waste cash, you can either:
1. Start off with a small list of URLS
2. Start off with a big list of longtail URLs. (longtail url's are the url's that only get 1-10 views a day)

Wow 40% ctr on lps on Ppv? Geeze I have a lot of work to do!

Thanks

01-20-2011 05:17 PM #16 stackman (Administrator)

Sorry let me clarify a bit, that's for really targeted campaigns!

It's not like I'm running an IQ quiz and targeting discovery.com, ufc.com, apple.com, and aceofcakes.com and managing a 40% LP -> Offer CTR. That won't happen.
For those more general campaigns it's not possible to pin point a specific CTR you should achieve. They will always have a wide range. Just get a CTR that will achieve you a profit

Try to get above 1-2% CTR though. That's way to low. If you want private msg me your lander and I'll give you some tips!

01-21-2011 01:21 AM #17 jroes57 (Member)

Okay, stackman has seen my LP and as of that my LP is hovering close to 4% click through. Thanks!
Now the problem of conversions are coming in. Lol hope I get that down soon

Keep trying guys!

Stack,

What do you do when you just ran through your full URL and tested each one to the offer payout and have no leads?

01-21-2011 12:55 PM #18 stackman (Administrator)

Awesome glad i can boost it up!
If i have no leads after Ive tested a target close to the payout usually I'll toss the target. Sometimes if i have a 'poker gut feeling' that the target might workout, i'll give it a bit longer to see if it yields a conversion.

01-21-2011 08:26 PM #19 jroes57 (Member)

Anyone having success with this? All my targets bombed.

02-08-2011 01:05 AM #20 sqallpl (Member)

I'm testing topic-targeted IQ Quiz campaigns and I have some targets with 30% CTR. But for 400+ clicks I've got only one conversion.

12-18-2011 11:28 AM #21 bhaskar (Member)

Thank you stackman for this excellent artcle. I have a question..assuming payout is $10 and you have 1000 urls ( that is what every guru preaches to get from affexpert/affportal tools)...does it mean you spend 10k to test which url is working..please clarify

12-18-2011 02:12 PM #22 bbrock32 (Administrator)

You should never start with 1000 urls unless you have a huge budget.

20 medium / high traffic urls are a good start.

12-18-2011 07:10 PM #23 bhaskar (Member)

Thank you sir, But i researched somewhere and it was suggested that to avoid high traffic sites like amazon, google etc, because your budget will be blown in minutes.. before you have a chance to pause... therefore any precise traffic figures for beginners...please help
