Angle + Demographic question

What is better, choosing a demographic first and then figuring out an angle or angle first and then demographic?

I have been running an Asian dating campaign. One of my angles, which I'm sure is a pretty weak one, is "Asian Girls love outdoors/Asian girls are fit and athletic" and the targeting that I used, aside from the generic targeting was body type = athletic.

This campaign has had 2 conversions, but the creatives have very low ctr (<.05%).

Because of the conversions I am inclined to think that this angle has potential, but it is currently red.

How would you tighten the demographic for this angle to have better targeting?

Thanks!

Hi Noel

It's best to actually pick an offer first, then work your way back up. Speak to your affiliate manager and ask him which offers are doing best on your traffic source (guessing POF?) by volume, then try to figure out an angle from there. You dont want to start with a weak offer - pick one that others are having success with!

Yep I agree with Nick, I always go for proven offers.

I know back in my day on POF Asian offers did well though, I assume they still are.

Have you tried a lot of creatives? Finding pictures is key. Do the girls in the pictures match your angle (fit/outdoor type)?

Thanks for the tips guys.
Yes I'm working with PoF. How about connecting the angle with the demographic?
So for my example fit/outdoor, is there a more creative way of targeting the demo other than body type = athletic?

My question also stems from other threads on angles. Like Ben's Trouble Finding Angles? Retrain Your Eyes and Never Run Out Again post:
“Tired to dating slobs? Meet a guy who cleans up after himself! 87% women agree, a clean guy is better! Sign up to meet them now”
How would you target using this angle?

Sure, for example certain states might be more popular with outdoorsy things (doubt Alaska has many golfers...)

Let us know which offers your AM suggests and I'm sure others will jump in with suggestions

I'd strongly suggest you start a follow along in the POF section of the forum, got started out there myself
