Which CDN is the best with the most POPs?
Akamai or Amazon ?
or other I don't know about
Depends on country.
Akami has most global coverage, but Amazon and rackspace have a presence in places that akami does not.
See where their end nodes are, and put your content there.
A CDN, or Content Display Network, is a series of servers controlled by one company in multiple countries.
When the CDN detects a web user trying to access a page, the CDN will detect the user's location, and redirect the user to download the page's content from the nearest server. So, you need to figure out which CDN has server(s) closest to your audience.
ELI5 - You get a package delivered but you're not home (USA) and they leave a note, local collection office for you to pickup (POP location) for company A is 5 miles away (Akamai), company B is 1000 miles (MaxCDN). In another country (China) company B may have more offices that are closer.
Amazon when shipping to China decides to use company B to post as they have more local delivery office where customers can collect packages
...
Akamai is without a doubt the best choice all round choice technically, unless you're running somewhere like china or a few other random countries. Your access to their network can vary depending on where you buy it from (typically resold) and even though places like rackspace might say they use Akamai its to a limited network.
I'd recommend Akamai brought through liquidweb. Yes, its a lot more expensive than other places - but their support will be willing to help you out setting it up, talk plain english to you and actually give a shit when something goes wrong. You might not get the same fancy control panel others offer however.

Personally I use rackspace cloudfiles with CDN enabled, also CDN77 sometimes with files stored on their FTP
if you have an absolute need for speed and don't mind the cost, check out http://www.turbobytes.com/
They have a very cool service that balances your demand against the best CDN for that exact location. Im not currently using it as 95% percent of my traffic is USA and we don't have the scale necessary where having a routing map for all 50 states is needed.
If your global or have huge margins to play around with, check it out.
After a ton of research and testing, I use MaxCDN. Good balance of POPs/ vs cost.
If I'm not mistaken Rackspace uses Akamai as their CDN.. They just act as a platform over the top of Akamai..
Companies like LiquidWeb and Rackspace use Akamai as a service provider but most certainly do not access their entire network, only a small portion of it.
Akamai has the best global coverage.
If you want cheap, Rackspace or Amazon. Potato pohtato really.
Tyrbobytes and MetaCDN balance between CDN providers, probably using Cedexis. I'd check out MetaCDN if you're worried about getting the 'best available' for a region.
It's always going to be a balance of infrastructure, pricing, your tech knowledge, etc.
If anyone is interested in running on Akamai's entire network and is already spending at least several hundred USD per month on another CDN, feel free to PM me.
We have a large account directly with Akamai (not with a reseller) and we're looking to sell off some excess capacity.
