Traffic Junky Newbie - Advice Needed!

I'm new to media buying and have just started on Traffic Junky. I have a few questions that I could use some help with.

1. I hear it's best to go for 'Tier 2' countries as a new affiliate. I've started with Brazil but should I test this one country first or try others too?
2. I'm bidding low (less than $0.10). Is this a 'safe' strategy or should I bid higher?
3. I've started by testing 'all available spots'. Is this a good strategy or try them 1 by 1?
4. Should I be using 'keywords' or going for generic traffic?
5. Would you recommend starting with desktop of mobile ads?
6. What kind of budget is required on Traffic Junky for meaningful testing?

Any help much appreciated!

Couple of answers for you…

It never hurts to test more obviously - and make sure you’re testing a few offers too. But it’s fine to try one geo first.

Your bids will depend on how much traffic you want/are getting. If you find you don’t get much traffic, it doesn’t matter how “safe” it is, you won’t have any potential to make any money. So you’ll have to analyse this as you go.

By testing all available spots, this can mean that you’ll end up competing with yourself. Eg. you have the same ad running 2 or 3 places on the same page for one user. This is obviously a waste of money and should be avoided.

Your budget will depend on the payout of the offer and the amount of variables you’re testing.

Our bidding table should show you the estimate volume you will get with your bid, I reckon you need to find the right balance.

Please keep in mind that using keywords will drastically limit the traffic you can get so you will likely have to increase your bid to get enough of it to test.
I would keep Keyword targeting as an optimization option later (unless your product is aimed at a very specific niche).

I think it depends on the product you are working with.
And your landing page of course

True, to start with I would pick only one spot per site (say NTVA) then later, if you see you perform better on some specific sites, you can add a couple extra spots for this (these) website(s) and see what's the best bang for your buck (sometimes there's surprising results with the footer square that, even though they get less exposure will kill it in terms of ROI because they are much cheaper).

True again
Even though by adding all your variables in a single campaign and using the URL tokens to track them (spots, geos, banners,...) and limiting the daily budget of the campaign you can have a pretty good read of what is going on.

DISCLAIMER: I am not an affiliate marketer myself, this is based on what I've seen going on on TJ, but you are likely at the right place to get answers from guys much more efficient than I am.
