Hello fellow STMers,
I'm a long time lurker first time poster.
After some reading here I decided to try some direct linking just in order to get my feet wet and to learn the basics (tracking, postback links, setting up campaign and so on). I chose some low payout (~$2) email submit offers from peerfly and maxbounty (walmart coupons, games, win an xbox one...) and got traffic from 50OnRed.
This didn't worked out, of course, and I paused the campaign after a week. I did bid on Keywords and blacklisted to high traffic stuff like google and youtube, and stuff that didn't seem to work, but nothing seemed to work
In the meanwhile I learned some HTML/CSS on codeacademy (at least to be able to understand the code), read a lot, had my 9-6 job (which I don't have anymore), and now I'm back...
I now try:
Aff Network: F5 Media
Offer: "Dominos VS Pizza Hut $100 Gift Card "
Payout: $2
Traffic Source: 50OnRed
Tracking:
At the beginning I targetet only high ranking alexa rank domains that have something to do with pizza or food delivery, just direct linking to see what works - result: nothing works
Visits: 745
Conversions: 3
Revenue: $6
Cost: $120.53
average CPV: $0.1618
ROI: -95.02%
I want to add, that I targeted 5 high volume sites with a alexa rank not higher than 3100. 745 Visits on 1 day seams not much to me, no?
Bidding on each domain is $0.1, and still below smart bid. One of the domains has a smart bid of $1.013 right now, when I started some days ago it was on $0.506 and I payed it . But after this day my bid went down to $0.2 for this domain, all the others $0.1
Looking at other bidding numbers here on STM, these numbers seam super high, I would need a very good converting lander/offer combo to make this profitable...
So now comes the lander:
Although I read here somewhere to make a lander that looks like the offer page, I did something else: I did a lander that looks like one of the domains I'm targeting. A high volume food delivery site (Alrexa rank around 3000). So I choose to mimic it, so people feel comfortable on my site, looking professional (I think) and familiar.
I got a guy, I sent him a url to rip, with instructions how to change it, and have a Lander with ringtone playing in the beginning, 3 Versions:
One with an enter pop, one with an exit pop, one with no pop at all... But basically the same lander. It looks A LOT like one of the domains I'm targeting, just different words
I'm still targeting the other domains too, tough.
I got 3 versions but they needed still some fixes...But I couldn't wait, so I chose to upload (rackspace) one version (with enter pop and marimba ringtone ringing 2times).
I optimized the wallpaper (from 270kb to 100kb) and the ringtone (also from 180kb to 90kb), have now about 800-900ms loading time..
One day online and the results are in (btw, chose another pizza offer from peerfly and my CTA is redirecting 50/50 to both of them, payout $1.6):
Visits: 1710
Clicks: 37
Conversions: 3
Revenue: $5.60
Cost: $185.62
ROI: -96.98%
Thats even worse lol
So I'm waiting for the new landers, even added a lander with another intro pop that should be more interesting, added dynamic insert (special offer for {domain} visitors, offer available only for {region} residents), countdown (you have 4:59 left), changed the text a bit, deleted stuff that people wont read anyhow...
Lets see
I guess I'm sticking too much with this angle (and I'm not even sure this is an angle, it's pretty aggressive I think) , and I should maybe do a lander for each domain I'm targeting, a new lander...
Or I should really do a lander that looks a lot like the offers landing page...less of a headache..
I'm open for opinions ,
thanks
At that cost you need a very high converting lander which I don't think you'll be able to find quickly and cheap. Better try other, more cheaper and more targeted sources.
Adding countdowns geo-location and stuff like this works, but it won't affect your CR so significantly.
Don't you think you are spending a bit too much bud?
I've read somewhere on this forum that when starting off its best to spend 10 times the offer payout, so if the payout is $2 spend $20 to gather data at first, someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
True, I should pause the campaign a lot earlier and try something else, working on different version of the lander, with different wording/angles
Thanks
Your bids seem completely out of whack ....
Please try to model this out on excel to understand what you need to believe in order for a campaign to back out for you and do a sanity check on whether this is realistic or not.
I think you will find this at your current bids, it is not.
I totally get you,
So you say just bid manually and don't get affected by 50 telling me about smart bidding, and that I'm not going to get traffic with low bids?
No, what I am saying is that at the end of the day, your revenue > costs. Break down these two variables into their constituent components, slap together an Excel model, and see under what assumptions it backs out for you. If the model shows that you need a 50% conversion rate on PPV traffic, then you know that this is a not a realistic scenario.
Well I did the excel, and of course it's not realistic. So Lowering the bid is the only thing I can do, and try other landers/angles. But def. lower the bids
